Description
Main responsibility is to provide technical aluminum casting know-how to relevant manufacturing department and engineering, to maintain or improve product quality or processes.
TYPICAL JOB DUTIES- Provides training and technical development and instructions to employees and departments in order to establish manufacturing consistency and repeatability.
- Ensures that the employees have the necessary material, supplies, and tools to perform their work adequately.
- Ensures that the required production process is being followed.
- Communicates and explains activity instructions and product criteria requirements complete comprehension by the employees.
- Ensures that the employees know how to perform their duties and respect the required standards.
- Provides experience and skills to manufacturing and engineering related to part and process issues/activities.
- Responsible for product criteria setups and updating.
- Works with engineering in projects, investigations, and studies to develop, improve, correct, or optimize part quality or processes.
- Responsible for process control and product development
- Troubleshoot casting product and process issues/problems in production
- Establish, document, and verify part specific gating and risering, molding, foundry, and heat treat techniques/parameters.
- Analyze casting defects using metallography and NDT methods
- Evaluate, plan and eliminate defects, failures, and scrap for both production and development programs to ensure a robust process and consistent casting metallurgical quality
- Provide technical support and corrective action relating to customer complaints, customer returns, and internal/external audits.
- Ensure the proper calibration and operation of emission spectrometer for chemical analysis
- Support, implement, and promote foundry environmental health and safety practices
- Technical oversight and responsibilities in materials testing lab (tensile, chemistry, hardness, metallography)
- Test new foundry methods and practices
- Support all continuous improvement, lean manufacturing, and cost reduction initiatives
- Support foundry research & development process/product activities
COMPETENCY PROFILE
Education
DEC (college or foundry technology certificate) or Bachelor in Engineering (Metallurgical, Material Science)
Professional Designation
None
Experience
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
