Description
The Public Service Pension Plan (Plan) is a defined benefit pension plan established in 1947 for eligible employees of the Government of Alberta, its agencies, boards and commissions. The Plan has $20 Billion in assets, almost 100,000 members and 27 participating employers. The plan is a highly valued, reliable component of compensation recognizing dedicated public service and contributing to a secure retirement for its members. PSPP Corporation (PSPP) is the Administrator of the Plan and Trustee of the Plan fund.
Corporate Counsel
PSPP has partnered with Aplin to find a talented Corporate Counsel to join their management team. This is a hybrid office role located in Edmonton. As Corporate Counsel, you will be a key legal advisor, working closely with the Chief Finance and Risk Officer and Chief Executive Officer, and engaging with Boards, service providers and external counsel.

Success in the position will be driven by the ability to build trust within the organization. Experience is valued but more so the ability to research, develop and implement logical and credible solutions to problems.
The ideal candidate:
- University degree from an accredited Canadian law school
- 5+ years of experience in a law firm or in-house counsel environment
- Practical knowledge of the law and legal principles and practices, particularly in the areas of pension, tax, employment, contract, privacy, litigation and regulatory matters
- Practical knowledge of principles and practices of corporate and board governance
- Knowledge of insurance and liability concepts
- Strong communication skills - written, verbal and presentation
- Ability to proactively identify, manage and mitigate risks and issues
- Experience acting as a key strategic advisor in an organizational environment is desirable
