Position Summary
We are seeking a Permanent Full Time Cardiovascular Perfusionist at Kelowna General Hospital in Kelowna, BC.

Days of work: Monday to Friday with on call responsibilities Saturdays, Sundays, and statutory holidays, Days, Evenings

Shift times: 06:45 to 14:45, 08:00 to 16:00, 11:00 to 19:00

Candidates with research experience is preferred.

What will you work on?

The position works under the direct clinical supervision of the Anaesthesiologist and the Surgeon and provides technical support in the direct application of extracorporeal perfusion techniques. Monitors physiological responses of patients undergoing open-heart surgery. Ensures effective and safe patient care. Demonstrates expertise and leadership in perfusion practice. Operates, prepares and maintains perfusion equipment. Maintains and advances clinical competence. Participates on designated hospital committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned.

Some Typical duties and responsibilities include:

• Provides perfusion services by methods such as assembling and operating extracorporeal equipment to temporarily replace the patient's circulatory and respiratory functions, conducting myocardial perfusion and protection techniques, assessing patient's physiological condition such as; hemodynamic pressure, blood gases, anticoagulation levels, electrocardiograph, coronary/systemic blood flow and temperature recordings, adjusting equipment to maintain patient vital signs within the acceptable ranges, conducting physiological measurements and calculations, and administering blood products, drugs, anaesthetic vapours, crystalloid solutions and medical gases as directed. Acts as a perfusion resource in areas of non-cardiac services including orthopaedic surgery, vascular surgery, trauma surgery and critical care.
• Maintains, calibrates, monitors and tests the integrity of perfusion equipment to ensure safe and effective functioning through methods such as lubricating and replacing items, running diagnostic applications and recording results as well as identifying malfunctioning equipment for repair. Notifies Supervisor of identified repairs/issues for determination of appropriate action.
• Participates in approved interdisciplinary research and special projects in collaboration with Supervisor (or designate) and other health care professionals, through methods such as collecting data, integrating and interpreting data, summarizing information, and/or providing verbal updates for review and further analysis by principal researcher, research team and/or project coordinator.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualfications
Graduation from a recognized program in Cardiovascular Perfusion Technology plus one (1) year recent related experience of an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Current Certificate of Registration with the Canadian Society of Clinical Perfusionists
(CSCP) and eligible for membership with the CSCP.
