Salary:
Salary range for the position is $88,990 to $127,923. Interior Health establishes salaries within the minimum and maximum of the salary range based on consideration of the qualifications, experience of the applicant, and an internal equity review of the salaries of other employees.

About the job:
In accordance with the established vision and values of the organization and reporting to the Director of Physician Engagement, Planning, and Leadership Development, the Lead, Medical Leadership Development, plays a critical role in the design, implementation, and evaluation of leadership development initiatives tailored to the unique needs of our medical staff, including physicians, midwives, nurse practitioners, and oral surgeons. The Lead is tasked with creating and delivering training programs that build leadership capacity and enhance the overall effectiveness and resilience of the organization. By promoting a learning environment that encourages open dialogue, effective problem-solving, innovation, and creativity, this role is essential to fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence in healthcare delivery.

The Lead will be deeply involved in consulting, coaching, and facilitating development programs, with a particular focus on leadership, team learning, and managing change and transitions within the organization. This role is also responsible for the ongoing review of the medical leadership development programs to ensure sustainability and that the programs continue to meet the evolving needs of our learners. To achieve these objectives, the Lead will develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with key partners, including the Medicine and Quality portfolio leadership, Executive Medical Directors, senior Interior Health leaders, and external partners. Through these partnerships, the Lead will ensure that the leadership development initiatives are impactful, relevant, and contribute to the ongoing success and innovation within Interior Health.

Typical duties and responsibilities:

• Design and develop comprehensive medical staff learning and leadership development programs aligned with organizational goals and objectives.

• Collaborate with interested parties, including medical staff, senior leadership, and HR professionals, to assess learning needs and identify areas for leadership development.

• Research and incorporate best practices in medical leadership development, adult learning principles, and innovative educational methodologies into program design.

• Create curriculum frameworks, learning objectives, and program content that address leadership competencies and skills relevant to medical staff roles.
• Identify and leverage internal and external resources, such as subject matter experts, trainers, and educational materials, to support program development.

• Coordinate and facilitate learning activities, including workshops, seminars, webinars, and conferences, tailored to medical staff needs and schedules.

• Evaluate program effectiveness through assessment tools, surveys, and participant feedback to measure learning outcomes and impact on leadership development.

• Continuously review and update program content and delivery methods to ensure relevance, effectiveness, and alignment with emerging healthcare trends and challenges.

• Provide individual coaching, mentoring, and support to medical staff participating in leadership development programs to enhance their growth and development.

• Responsible for ongoing evaluation of learning programs and initiatives to ensure continuous improvement through data driven and evidence informed practice.

• Maintain program documentation, records, and data related to participant progress, achievements, and program evaluations.

• Collaborate with internal and external partners to promote and market medical leadership development initiatives and opportunities.

• Serve as a resource and liaison for medical staff seeking information, guidance, or support related to leadership development and career advancement.

• Stay informed about current issues, trends, and research in medical leadership, healthcare management, and medical education to inform program enhancements.

• Cultivate a culture of continuous learning and leadership excellence among medical staff and healthcare professionals within the organization.

• Collaborate with HR and talent management teams to integrate medical leadership development initiatives with broader organizational development strategies.

• Develop and manage budgets, resources, and timelines for physician learning and leadership development programs.

• Foster collaboration and networking opportunities among program participants to facilitate peer learning and support.

• Develop partnerships with academic institutions, professional associations, and industry leaders to enhance learning opportunities and resources for medical staff.

• Communicate program updates, successes, and opportunities to key partners through presentations, reports, and regular meetings.
• Uphold ethical standards, confidentiality, and professionalism in all aspects of program development and management.

• In alignment with IH’s Occupational Health & Safety Program, employees shall adhere to all Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures at all times and attend all required training. Employees are responsible to report any identified hazards, unsafe conditions or incidents to the manager or supervisor immediately.

Education, Training, and Experience
• A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline such as Organizational Development, Organizational Psychology, Organizational Behavior, Human Resource Management, or Adult Education.
• Five (5) years’ recent experience working in an education, development, or health leadership capacity in a health services environment.
• ICF credential, PROSCI, and/or CHRP designation an asset.
• Experience working collaboratively and successfully with physicians and medical leaders is preferred.

Skills and Abilities
• Demonstrated experience working successfully with physicians and medical leaders.
• Comprehensive knowledge or current organizational development theory, methodologies and tools including change management, systems thinking, leadership and team development.
• Demonstrated coaching, consulting, and facilitation skills.
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relations and to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to assess, design, implement and evaluate learning strategies and methodologies based on adult learning principles.
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment, with limited supervision.
• Ability to build relationships with and consensus among a variety of individuals. This includes external relationships with program experts.
• Ability to analyze and interpret data and prepare written reports.
• Broad understanding of current issues, challenges, and future directions of health care delivery in Canada.
• Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
