Position Summary
East Kootenay Hospital has an exciting opportunity for a Casual Respiratory Services Clerk to join their team in Cranbrook, B.C! This position works rotating shifts 07:30 to 15:30, 15:00 to 19:00, 08:30 to 15:00, 07:30 to 16:00
This is a Casual opportunity. Casual means there are no guaranteed hours and work requirements can vary from 0 - 37.5 hours per week.

What you will work on:
• Schedules and books outpatient appointments by performing duties such as receiving appointment requests, making follow up appointments, adjusting arrangements in accordance with patient and facility requirements, assigning to the appropriate time, date and location, and entering appointment information into computerized scheduling system and/or appointment books. Confirms appointment information with patients/physicians/professional staff as required.
• Obtains patients’ charts, medical reports, lab results and x-rays from internal and external sources as requested by physicians and/or professional staff.
• Performs receptionist duties such as greeting and directing patients, public, company sales representatives, doctors, porters and others as required. Responsible for arranging and confirming appointments/meetings, answering the telephone, routing calls to the appropriate person and relaying messages.
• Performs data entry functions for a variety of clinical registries and databases by entering information into software program(s) in accordance with established guidelines/procedures.
• Generates requisitions for patient care and operational services as per written, verbal and telephone orders/requests. Arranges patient porter transfers.
• Types technical and non-technical material such as correspondence, policies and procedures, manuals, minutes, memos, reports from drafts, revisions or dictating machines using computer hardware and software for word processing, database and spreadsheets.
• Performs record management duties related to clinical activities such as setting up and maintaining filing systems, indexing files and materials to be filed, and conducting file searches for requested information. Transfers records, requests records from throughout the Province, purges and sends files to storage according to provincial guidelines/standards and Interior Health (IH) policies.
• Arranges meetings as directed, books meeting rooms, types and circulates notices and agenda. Records, transcribes and distributes notes or minutes of meetings.
• Receives bills, invoices and supplies; checks for accuracy against the department database, makes any necessary corrections and adjustments, collates and, in consultation with the PPL (or designate), submits for payment.
• Performs a variety of related clerical functions such as ordering office supplies, photocopying and sending/receiving faxed correspondence. Opens, sorts and distributes incoming mail. Prepares outgoing mail for distribution.
• Uses Registration, Clinical, and Financial database systems to extract, compile, report and graph information for research and statistical evaluation. Compiles and submits GL period end statistics and reports.
• Maintains timekeeping records for regular and relief staff by faxing/receiving daily flow sheets to/from the Staffing Services Office; reviews flow sheets for accuracy and refers problems to PPL (or designate) as required. Enters payroll information into computerized systems in accordance with established procedures.
• Participates in continuous quality improvement activities by performing duties such as providing input/feedback to the PPL (or designate) on work procedures and opportunities for process improvement.
• Assists with orienting new staff by performing duties such as demonstrating work procedures and demonstrating use of equipment.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
What should your application include?
• A current administered 5 minute typing certificate of 45wpm completed in the last 48 months from an approved institution (non-supervised tests are not accepted);
• Proof of completion of a Medical Terminology Course;
• Your Resume indicating two year’s recent related experience, Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience;
• A Cover Letter stating your availability to start in a new position and on-call, casual work (i.e. days of the week);
Qualfications
Education, Training and Experience:
Grade 12 and two years' recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Skills and Abilities:
Ability to keyboard at 45 wpm.
Knowledge of medical terminology
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
Ability to deal with others effectively
Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
Ability to organize work
