Position Summary
Interior Health is hiring a permanent full-time Rural Programs Liaison who is passionate about making a difference in healthcare.
Location: This position is flexible within the Interior Health Region.

Salary range for the position is $67,861 to $97,550. Interior Health establishes salaries within the minimum and maximum of the salary range based on consideration of the qualifications, experience of the applicant, and an internal equity review of the salaries of other employees.
How will you create an impact:
The Rural Programs Liaison works closely with the Rural Continuing Medical Education (RCME) Liaison to seek opportunities to support rural programs as the position evolves. Through engagement and consultation with rural physicians and medical leaders, this position builds relationships, increases communications, and identifies opportunities for community support and planning for the rural programs’ portfolio. This role works in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and RCCbc, with accountability to the health authority and the Joint Standing Committee on Rural Issues (JSC).
What will you work on:
• Develops a strong understanding of rural programs including policies, processes, and relevant partners to evolve into a subject matter expert.
• Provides community outreach, engagement and consultation to rural communities to assist in formulating a needs assessment for current and future planning and makes recommendations for program development to best support rural physicians and communities.
• Works to develop a Rural Programs Network in collaboration with the RCME Community of Practice.
• Identifies communication opportunities and facilitates the exchange of information to increase collaboration between partners and communities.
• Develops relationships through direct communication with rural physicians to determine eligibility and ensure appropriate benefits, and rural program awareness by engaging with new to practice and new to rural physicians.
• Provides support to rural physicians and the health authority to improve the accuracy of rural physician counts by providing outreach to rural physicians to confirm leaves, sabbaticals or changes and works in collaboration with the Ministry of Health staff to ensure adherence with policy.
• Engages with communities, health authority medical leadership, and physicians to develop community specific plans for the Northern and Isolation Travel Assistance Outreach Program (NITAOP) by assisting and supporting communities in identifying and prioritizing current and emerging health care needs to inform local and regional planning activities.
• In collaboration with the RCME Liaison, coordinates community specific NITAOP plans and RCME Community education plans to coordinate clinical visits and CME in community.
• Supports the community appointee physician and health authority medical director to facilitate and develop the Rural Emergency Enhancement Fund (REEF) community applications.
• With a customer service approach and as the main point of contact, navigates the rural programs portfolio and supports relationship building between partners.
• Seeks opportunities to support other rural programs as required.
• In alignment with IH’s Occupational Health & Safety Program, employees shall adhere to all Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures at all times and attend all required training. Employees are responsible to report any identified hazards, unsafe conditions or incidents to the manager or supervisor immediately.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualfications
Education, Training and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in a health or business-related discipline.
• Three (3) to five (5) years of recent, related experience including working with physicians, health care providers and staff. Previous experience working with rural programs an asset.
• Or an equivalent combination
Skills and Abilities
• Ability to support change management and develop relationships with rural physicians and key partners.
• Ability to see the big picture and bring others on board with ideas and actions.
• Knowledge of project management, problem solving and budgeting.
• Effective community consultation skills.
• Ability to apply judgement in setting priorities, identifying issues and determining required action while working under pressure and deadlines.
