Interior Health is hiring a permanent full-time Visual Communications Consultant who is passionate about making a difference in healthcare.

Salary range for the position is $74,618 to $107,264. Interior Health establishes salaries within the minimum and maximum of the salary range based on consideration of the qualifications, experience of the applicant, and an internal equity review of the salaries of other employees.
How will you create an impact:
The Visual Communications Consultant is accountable for developing, planning, prototyping, and implementing designs for corporate communications tailored to public, employees, medical staff and other partner experiences.The Visual Communications Consultant develops and maintains collaborative relationships with internal partners as well as the broader Communications & Engagement Porfolio to meet their client(s)’ needs in a manner that supports business objectives and reflects the IH values and goals.
The position focuses on user-centered communication design that can leverage design theory, critical thinking and technical skills in print, product, digital, multimedia and interactive projects to transform health design across a range of visual, informational, and service-oriented design solutions.
In alignment with IH’s Occupational Health & Safety Program, employees shall adhere to all Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures at all times and attend all required training. Employees are responsible to report any identified hazards, unsafe conditions or incidents to your manager or supervisor immediately.
What will you work on:
• Acts as a strategic and trusted advisor to assigned internal client groups of IH leaders or portfolios. Works to understand their communication needs and provides guidance on effective visual communications that will help them inform their audiences, anticpate and respond to issues, and articulate their messages.
• Proactively supports the development, implementation, and evaluation of IH-wide employee-facing communication plans for projects and initiatives. Works in partnership with program and department leads, to ensure their programs, initiatives, and services are effectively communicated to diverse internal audiences as required.
• Identifies opportunities for improved methods for IH to most effectively share information with its employees and medical staff as well as external audiences.
• Writes and edits copy for advertising creative, provides art direction for outside design agencies and designers, sources outside suppliers and consultants, prepares budgets and costing proposals for projects and prepares Requests for Proposals (RFP) for various design and production projects.
• Liaises with external suppliers, such as pre-production service bureaus, printers, photographers, illustrators, promotional companies and others.
• Champions visual accessibility, ensuring colour contrast, fonts, media are appropriate for the experience, audience and device.
• Seeks out opportunities to engage with relvant partners, to increase own knowledge and understanding of context, perspective, pressures; shares learnings with portfolio team; considers specific needs of identified audiences, including Indigenous peoples, rural communities, patients/clients, partners, community leaders, etc.
• As a member of the Communications & Engagement portfolio, participates in the development or delivery of various communications-related resources made available to senior management, directors, employees and medical staff.
• Provides on-call (after hours) coverage according to portfolio schedule.
• Collaborates with other portfolio members, as required, to coordinate and execute assigned tasks, ensuring that service delivery is seamless for clients and deadlines are met.
• Seeks out opportunities to increase technical communications and engagement skills and awareness of best practices, industry standards, etc., and to share key learnings with portfolio.

Qualfications
Education, Training and Experience
• A bachelor’s degree specializing in Design, Media Arts, Indigenous Visual Culture, Communications, Public Relations or a related field.
• A minimum of five (5) years or recent, related communication design experience with print, product, multimedia, digital and interactive projects.
• An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, with demonstrated results in communications will also be considered.
• Previous experience in employee, corporate or marketing communications and knowledge of the healthcare (or other public sector) operating environment are an asset.
Skills and Abilities
• Ability to work as part of a collaborative, high-performing team.
• Communication design abilities and experience to develop user-focused interactive, display, print, and online materials for a variety of audiences.
• Skill in business writing to produce or advise on content for compelling internal and external publications.
• Expertise in web design, user experience and infographic development.
• Skill and proficiency in organizational electronic communication technology and web-based communications.
• Knowledge of technical issues relating to production of multimedia, digital, print and physical materials.
