What you will do

The main duties of a Johnson Controls Fire Alarm Installation Technician are to read and interpret engineered drawings and specifications, program, install, troubleshoot and verify Simplex Fire Alarm Systems with a strong focus on safety throughout all aspects of their role.

How you will do it

  • Reporting to the Construction Manager, technicians will work closely with the Project Managers to obtain project information required to perform their duties.
  • The Technician will then provide feedback to Project Managers regarding project scheduling and status as well as provide detailed CAN/ULC-S537 Verification Reports.
  • Technicians will assist Electrical Contractors during the installation, troubleshooting and verification process of Fire Alarm Installations ensuring that industry best practices are met throughout all phases of the installation process.
  • Technicians will also be required to install and configure electronic components and terminate low voltage field wiring neatly and efficiently.
  • Fire Alarm Install Technicians will collaborate with other Installation team members and may also be required to assist Project Managers and Engineering Consultants with Fire Alarm system design concepts including the production of detailed input-output Matrices.

What we look for

  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Fire Alarm Technician.
  • Completion of a college diploma in Fire Protection or Electrical/Electronic or Licensed Electrician
  • Working knowledge of provincial building codes and ULC standards S524, S536, and S537.
  • Proficient in the use of computers.
  • Experience with PLC or computer programming an asset
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with working knowledge of electronic test equipment.
  • Proficient with the use of hand tools and small power tools
  • Ability to manage multiple large projects accurately and efficiently and adapt to changing customer needs.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematic diagrams pertaining for Fire Alarm Systems and Ancillary Control Circuits
  • Ability to express clear technical solutions in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to lift equipment and tools up to 40lbs.
  • Ability to climb ladders and scaffolding.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Strong communication skills and customer service focus
  • Strong focus on safety

Preferred:

Completion of a Canadian Fire Alarm Association (CFAA) certification or equivalent.
