Minimum requirement will be Special Education Part 1, with Specialist preferred.
Keewatin-Patricia District School Board (KPDSB) is situated in beautiful Northwestern Ontario. KPDSB serves the educational needs of approximately 5,000 students within 17 elementary and 6 secondary schools in the communities of Kenora, Sioux Narrows, Vermilion Bay, Ear Falls, Red Lake, Dryden, Sioux Lookout, Ignace, Pickle Lake, Savant Lake, and Upsala. RESPONSIBILITIES
Educational Testing; Staff Development; Program Modification; Co-ordinate support/school personnel; Implementation of Special Education Legislation; Liaise with community agencies; Communicate with parents; Liaise with Superintendent; Resource to SEAC (Special Education Advisory Committee); Co-ordinate support/school personnel. The successful candidate must be proficient with technology in order to support school staff and students with a variety of computer applications. Additional work will also involve: Enter and verify special education data; Provide training and on-going support to SERTs in the use of IEP Application; Provide training and on-going support to school personnel related to special education; support web-based applications specific to IEP’s and provincial report cards.
QUALIFICATIONS
Valid Ontario Teacher Qualifications required; specialist in special education and/or Master of Education or Master of Psychology preferred; additional training and experience in student assessment; varied experiences in special education; knowledge of strategies in developing individual educational plans; excellent written and oral skills; experience in using IEP applications; excellent facilitation, problem solving and communication skills and proven ability to function as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Ability to attend to details, and carefully follow procedures and processes. The successful applicant will be expected to engage in ongoing professional learning, including but not limited to additional qualifications in the area of special education.
Travel across the region required.
