The Kenora Catholic District School Board (KCDSB) educates more than 1300 students from diverse cultures and backgrounds in 4 elementary schools and 1 secondary school located in beautiful Kenora and Red Lake, Ontario. Invites INTERNAL applications for the Elementary Summer Learning Program Teachers As part of our 2025 Summer Learning Program

The program will run July 7-25, 2025

8:30 a.m. ~ 12:00 p.m. (Plus preparation time) with the possibility of afternoons (optional)

Position Summary:

Since 2014, the KCDSB has coordinated and facilitated Summer Learning Programs (SLPs) in its schools. Backed by research conducted for the Literacy and Numeracy Secretariat, Ministry of Education, which revealed that SLPs reduce summer learning loss and build self-confidence for primary students. Most students enrolled in summer learning show increased enthusiasm for learning and improved achievement levels. These and other successes of the SLPs have been well documented both qualitatively and quantitatively.

The KCDSB SLP is a vibrant learning program with an innovative staff focused on increasing student faith development, well-being, and achievement. SLP Teachers will be responsible for planning an effective program that meets the individuals needs of students.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop a program that is flexible and responds to individual students needs
  • Offer a wide range of teaching materials and strategies
  • Maintain and update attendance records
  • Regular communication with parents
  • Develop a strategy to connect parents to the program
  • Communication with Summer Experience Program Administrator
  • Exit slips and feedback
  • Classroom management
A Catholic Teacher must possess:
  • An authentic, visible and deep commitment to the Catholic faith and be a credible witness/model of the faith.
  • A strong spiritual leadership to empower students and ensure that God and gospel values are integrated into the entire curriculum/life of the school
  • Superior administrative and organization skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong commitment and leadership in literacy and numeracy
