THE CHALLENGE

The incumbent will be responsible for estimating construction projects, according to company standards and customer deadlines. You will prepare cost estimates for materials, labor and equipment required to complete projects, based on submittals, price estimates, plans and specifications. You will also have to manage projects from their initiation until their delivery. At the same time, you will establish and maintain submission, monitoring and reporting systems and procedures. You will prepare statements and forecasts of costs and expenses during the duration of the projects.

YOUR DAILY DAY

• Receive and consult the 2D drawings (PDF format) transmitted by the engineering firm.
• Read and understand structural plans.
• Perform an initial overview of the plans to define the scope of the project and the needs specified in the engineering documents.
• Communicate with the estimator or project manager to obtain the necessary exclusions or clarifications.
• Establish the lines of work and model the steel profiles (beams, columns, etc.) in 3D from the 2D structural plans provided by the engineer.
• Design and detail the connections between the different structural elements.
• Check drawings to ensure compliance with specifications and design data.
• Validate the list of materials to purchase according to the engineering plan.
• Process all modeling (details, isometric views, parts lists) in order to produce the documents required for manufacturing and installation.
• Issue RFIs (Request For Information) to the engineer, as necessary, when information is missing or certain data or measurements are inconsistent.
• Update and correct drawings based on notes and comments from the auditor/engineer.
• Check the conformity of the parts with the drawings provided.
• Provide technical support to production teams or the people concerned.
• Check compliance of the work with plans, quotes and engineering specifications.

SKILLS – DESIRED ABILITIES

• DEP in Building Design or Industrial Design (compulsory).
• At least 4 years of experience in producing building structure plans (required).
• Proficiency in Advance Steel (a major asset) or any other similar CAD software dedicated to structural plans (e.g. AutoCAD, Tekla Structures, SDS/2).
• Knowledge of metal transformation processes, applicable standards and building codes.
• Comfort with the Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word).
• Knowledge of welding symbols and processes (an asset).
• Ability to read and understand technical plans and specifications.
• Excellent command of French (oral and written).
• Organized, rigorous and able to meet deadlines.
