Are you a passionate and driven compliance professional seeking a challenging and rewarding opportunity? Loblaw Companies Limited is seeking a highly motivated Director, Compliance & Ethics to lead and execute on a variety of high-impact and high-visibility compliance programs and initiatives across Loblaw Companies Limited and its subsidiaries.

Reporting to the VP, Compliance & Ethics, you will be a key driver in fostering a culture of compliance and ethics, partnering with business units to proactively identify and mitigate regulatory risks. You will oversee a team of subject matter experts, collaborating closely with other 2nd and 3rd Line of Defense functions to ensure comprehensive risk coverage and effective decision-making.

Key areas of focus under the remit will include:

  • Regulatory Compliance

  • Anti-Fraud and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC) Programs

  • Competition Law (Anti-trust)

  • Human Rights

  • Whistleblower Hotline

  • Conflicts of Interest

  • Code of Conduct

  • Policy Management

  • Testing & Monitoring of key compliance controls across the various programs listed above

What You'll Do

  • Lead the development, implementation, and oversight of a comprehensive organizational compliance and ethics programs.

  • Stay ahead of the curve on industry trends and regulatory changes, proactively adapting compliance programs to ensure ongoing compliance.

  • Provide ongoing expert advice and counsel on compliance and ethics matters, fostering strong business partnerships and ensuring clear communication across all levels.

  • Collaborate with SMEs to translate complex legal and policy requirements into easily understandable implementation plans for stakeholders.

  • Utilize data analytics and metrics to measure program effectiveness, identify areas for improvement, and drive continuous enhancement of compliance risk management frameworks.

  • Oversee the execution of the Anti-Bribery & Corruption program, including due diligence, risk assessments, monitoring activities, and developing key performance indicators.

  • Oversee the execution of the Anti-Fraud program, proactively identifying fraud types, monitoring reporting mechanisms, and working with specialists across the business to respond to fraud incidents, implement remediation plans and report on progress.

  • Lead design and operational effectiveness assessments, reviewing processes, assessing risks and controls, and providing recommendations for improvements as part of the Compliance & Ethics department’s testing and monitoring strategy.

  • Develop and deliver engaging ethics training and awareness programs for both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Present to senior business leaders and committees (i.e., Audit Committee, Risk and Compliance Committee, etc.) on a number of compliance and ethics matters.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent higher education qualification.

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in regulatory compliance, internal controls, auditing, or risk management, preferably in a regulated industry (retail, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, telecom, or financial).

  • Professional designation (CPA, CIA, CFE) strongly desired.

  • Strong understanding of anti-bribery, anti-fraud, and data privacy regulations, with experience evaluating the design and effectiveness of processes and controls. General knowledge in other regulatory topics (i.e., anti-trust laws, human rights, etc.) is a strongly desired.

  • Proven track record of managing multiple projects in complex matrix business and operational environments.

  • Excellent analytical, data analysis, and problem-solving skills, with experience using data visualization tools like PowerBI or Tableau.

  • Strong understanding of Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) systems (i.e., ServiceNow, Archer, Resolver).

  • Approach sensitive and confidential situations with a high degree of professionalism, upholding ethical standards, and demonstrating Loblaw Core values of Care, Ownership, Respect and Excellence in all that you do.

  • Be intuitive and comfortable to question and challenge in a respectful manner.

  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.

  • Strong sense of urgency, excellent time-management skills to effectively balance projects and ensuring timely incident response when required.

  • Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
