Director, Regional Maintenance, ON

Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to lead as a Regional Director of Maintenance. As the Regional Director of Maintenance, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of maintenance operations for multiple retail store locations within a designated region (ON). You will oversee your own assigned sites in addition to Regional Maintenance Managers (RMM’s) who oversee their assigned sites. Your primary objective will be to ensure the effective and efficient operation and maintenance of our facilities, equipment, and systems to meet quality and safety standards.

Role Requirements:

  • Strategic Planning: Develop and execute a comprehensive maintenance strategy aligned with the company's objectives, goals, and industry best practices. Identify areas for improvement and implement innovative solutions to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Team Management: Lead a team of maintenance managers for the assigned region across multiple retail store locations. Provide guidance, coaching, and support to ensure the team's success in delivering high-quality maintenance services. Foster a positive work environment that promotes teamwork, collaboration, and professional growth.
  • Facility Maintenance: Oversee and coordinate all aspects of facility maintenance, including electrical systems, plumbing, lighting, roofing, parking lots, facades/structural, Landscaping. Implement and standardize maintenance programs to minimize downtime and optimize operational performance.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Develop and implement maintenance programs for all equipment used in grocery and retail store operations, such as material handling, conveyor systems, cash registers, dock equipment, food service equipment, shelving/displays, racking. Ensure adherence to maintenance schedules and procedures to maximize equipment reliability and longevity.
  • Compliance and Safety: Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, codes, and safety standards related to maintenance activities. Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify potential hazards or risks and take appropriate corrective actions to maintain a safe and secure environment for employees and customers.
  • Subject Matter Expert: Act as a Subject Matter Expert and oversee SME categories assigned to their reports.
    • SME includes maintaining National Asset Lists, Account Management, Responsible for ensuring SOW is updated, Liaison for Enterprise Purchasing Group (EPG) and to compile input from all RMM's to make educated decisions on vendor selection
  • Budgeting and Cost Control: Manage the maintenance budget for the region. Monitor expenses, identify cost-saving opportunities, and implement strategies to optimize resource allocation while maintaining service quality and operational effectiveness.
  • Stakeholder Management: Proactively manage key internal partner relationships (Store Operations, Finance, Food Safety, Strategic Sourcing, etc.) by fostering trust, aligning expectations, and delivering results to drive continuous improvement in service and operational success.
  • Vendor Management: Establish and maintain relationships with external service providers, contractors, and suppliers. Evaluate vendor performance, assist with negotiate contracts, and oversee the procurement of maintenance-related goods and services to ensure cost-effectiveness and timely delivery.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Support Real Estate operations with initiatives, technical support, and project work as required.
  • Participate in Store Operation business calls as required
  • Cover for other Regional Directors and RMM’s as required
  • Support the overall Maintenance team as required
  • Other duties which may be assigned

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • 10 + years proven experience in maintenance management, preferably within the retail or grocery industry.
  • Strong knowledge of building systems, equipment, and maintenance best practices.
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills with a track record of effectively leading teams.
  • Proficiency in budgeting, cost control, and financial analysis.
  • In-depth understanding of regulatory compliance and safety standards.
  • Ability to develop and implement strategic plans and initiatives.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities, with the capacity to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Flexibility to travel within the assigned region as needed.
