Manager, Data Governance, Brampton, ON (1 Year Contract)

As a key member of the Data Governance team at Loblaw Companies Ltd, the Manager, Data Governance is responsible for supporting data governance and data advisory activities for Loblaw Companies Ltd. In this role, you will provide data advisory and governance expertise to projects as well as the build & implement the data operating model, ensuring that data is treated as a corporate asset.

The Manager will work with business partners, data stewards as well as technology teams to ensure a high level of data stewardship. This role will also ensure proper data access controls are in place including retention and archiving activities.

What You’ll Do:

  • Develop and implement a Data Governance roadmap that aligns the Data Governance policy with the overall goals of the business strategy
  • Responsible for building & maintaining Data Stewardship - i.e. collaborate with data stewards in building a stewardship community throughout the enterprise to ensure data assets are governed, secured and used appropriately. Build and implement the data operating model as well as enforcing standards, enterprise wide
  • Leading initiatives to enhance Data Governance & Stewardship, enabling education & support for next steps in teams’ data journeys
  • Manage Data Governance operational queues, intakes, ensuring appropriate level of access for individuals & teams as well as maintain access queues & SLAs. Provides an interpretation of guidelines for managing data governance within the enterprise. Work with partners to address data access risk and ensure proper controls for critical data elements
  • Lead the development and maturation of internal, business units, and Enterprise Data Governance metrics and KPIs. Apply and promote data governance standard methodologies for Loblaw Companies Ltd projects and processes
  • Lead a team of hard-working individuals, foster career growth and skill development
  • Support the cultural shift towards data as a strategic asset and competitive differentiator. Demonstrate Loblaw CORE values to deliver results

What You Bring:

  • Progressive experience in data management, data governance, process improvement, or analytics working with multi-functional / matrix project teams;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Superb communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to foster and develop relationships across the organization; A great teammate who is also able to work independently in a fast-paced environment;
  • Ability to work in an agile environment which requires prioritization of individual duties to align with department priorities.
  • Experience with data stewardship, enterprise data management and data security in establishing & maintaining trust in the data
  • Familiarity with productivity tools such as Office365, MS Teams, Confluence, JIRA, and Slack;
  • Proficient in data governance, data management life-cycle, data policies & standards
  • Experience with data governance tools such as Informatica Data Quality, Axon, and EDC;
