Description
Job Responsibilities:
Closures Technical Centre, a division of Magna International Inc., is focused on the design, development and testing of Mechatronics products for the automotive industry. We are currently looking for a student in Electrical/Electronics/Computer/Software/Mechatronics Engineering or similar, for a 12-16 month co-op placement starting on April 28, 2025.
- Generally assigned to components, sub-assemblies, or systems that are less complex in nature - carry over parts, existing business and/or minor modifications. Where assigned to systems, responsibility is usually for component(s) within the system.
- Most tasks will require soldering skills for assembling Wiring Harnesses, Building Test Boxes, and retrofitting of Development components from various groups including Power Systems, Latches, Modules, but primarily E/E group support.
- Receives assignments, preparation of simple plans, designs, calculations, costs, and bills of material in accordance with established codes, standards, drawings or other specifications (usually minor components of larger scope programs and projects).
- Able to provide quality documentation of completed work, examples include technical analysis and reports
- Supports the complete development for the designated products including, but not limited to design, build and test activities, in accordance with standard operating procedures and the product delivery process.
- Supports customer requirements, regulations and product specifications into the design of the designated products, ensuring compliance with operational, cost, timing, safety, reliability, quality, and manufacturing feasibility parameters
- Working with serial communication protocols (e.g., UART, I2C, SPI, LIN, CAN, etc.)
- Writes/compiles engineering content for the following deliverables: engineering specifications and documentation, including DFMEA, BOM, prototype control plans, key product characteristics, engineering changes and work orders.
- Consults and collaborates with personnel in various engineering and design activities relative to product development requirements.
- Supports effective communications within the project team and the customer, supplier, manufacturing and quality communities with guidance from engineering management and senior engineering personnel. Maintains all appropriate documentation.
- Understands and follows existing policies, procedures, work instructions and standards and makes recommendations for continuous improvements.
- Able to organize and maintain the E/E Lab where most work will be performed; as well as able to monitor raw material usage and order new material as required (Wiring, Switches, Banana Jacks, Connectors, etc.).

- Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
- Working towards Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronics/Computer/Software/Mechatronics Engineering or similar from an accredited university
- Developing communication skills: verbal and written
- Developing organizational skills and the ability to successfully complete multiple tasks within established and changing deadlines
- Basic competency in soldering & wiring, experience with electrical/electronics test equipment such as multimeters and oscilloscopes
- Programming knowledge, C programming for embedded microcontrollers desired, Python experience an asset
- Experience with microcontrollers and IDEs
- Proficient with word processing, spreadsheet and database applications
