Job Description

The AML/ATF Operations team is responsible for complying with the anti-money laundering/anti-terrorist financing (AML/ATF) regulations on behalf of all Canadian Domiciled entities of Manulife. This includes: The Manufacturers Life Insurance Company, Manulife Investment Management Limited, Manulife Securities, Manulife Investments and Manulife Bank. Reporting to the AML/ATF Program Director, the Senior AML Compliance Analyst will be responsible for the effective investigation and case management of sophisticated watch list scanning and transaction scenario monitoring for all lines of business in adherence to Manulife’s AML/ATF Policies.

Key Accountabilities:

Individual Accountabilities:

  • Conducting Anti-Money Laundering assessment based on sophisticated referrals from Business Areas, and make a determination based on the unusual activity.
  • Assessing higher risk daily transaction monitoring alerts understanding the indicators, facts and context of the transaction activity to make a determination on the appropriate course of action.
  • Investigate and assess the risk of alerts identified by Manulife’s customer risk assessment tools.
  • Prepare AML/ATF case reports and external reports for review outlining the depth of investigation activity, risk assessment and recommended remediation actions.
  • Ensure accurate case management and record keeping protocols are maintained with regards to regulatory filing requirements
  • Lead several UA assessments concurrently giving priority to each case.
  • Performing AML due diligence as part of ongoing monitoring of high risk customers

Key Shared Accountabilities:

  • Use judgment and knowledge of money laundering patterns to assess whether transactions are suspicious; conduct investigations and make recommendations as to the appropriate course of action; draft suspicious transaction reports where required.
  • Investigate and assess the risk of alerts identified by Manulife’s customer risk assessment tools.
  • Maintain proper records and audit trail of investigation activity and disposition actions for all alerts.
  • Prepare case reports for review outlining the depth of investigation activity, risk assessment, and recommended remediation actions.
  • Prepare FINTRAC regulatory reporting within prescribed timeframes to ensure compliance obligations are met and financial penalties are not delivered by regulator.
  • Maintain a current understanding of money laundering and terrorist financing issues, including policies, procedures, regulations, industry best practices, criminal typologies and developing trends. Assist in identifying systemic procedural weaknesses and additional training enhancements for Offshore AML Team with a particular focus on unusual activity.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Assisting junior AML analysts with daily transaction monitoring and watchlist scanning when needed
  • Provide support where/when required to Offshore AML Team
  • Involvement in projects and initiatives related to Anti-Money Laundering
  • Identifying and recommending opportunities for efficiencies and effectiveness of AML/ATF ongoing monitoring based on developing trends in criminal typologies and industry standard processes.

Job Requirement:

  • 3+ years of AML/ATF experience, bank AML/ATF experience would be an asset
  • Proven experience with AML/ATF management & reporting systems (e.g. PRM, FCRM, FINTRAC F2R)
  • Understanding of the AML/ATF regulations and risk management
  • Solid understanding of all Manulife products, processes and systems would be an asset
  • CAMS certification would be an asset

  • Strong oral and written communication skills to communicate sophisticated issues and circumstances to all levels of staff and management
  • Strong time management with ability to take ownership and operate independently to ensure that compliance objectives are achieved.
  • Ability to remain calm and to deal optimally with contentious issues
  • Detail oriented, able to handle several tasks, and adapt quickly to changing business needs to meet deadlines
  • Technologically savvy - ability to learn to navigate multiple systems

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Primary Location

Waterloo, Ontario

Salary range is expected to be between

$56,400.00 CAD - $94,000.00 CAD
