Job Description

The opportunity

Reporting to the Director, Management Reporting, the Analyst is responsible for producing thoughtful, relevant management reporting materials on the General Account ($400+ billion of invested assets) for Manulife’s Chief Investment Officer (CIO), to provide financial and strategic updates for the Executive Leadership Team, the Board of Directors, Senior Management, Investor Relations, Group Finance, and external stakeholders. The Analyst will partner with senior leaders from various functions across the organization (i.e., Portfolio Management, Asset Liability Management, Investor Relations, Actuarial, Financial and Credit Risk, Accounting and Reporting, etc.) to provide value-added reporting.

Responsibilities:

The Analyst, will focus on the following key activities:

  • Support in the production of high-quality management reporting materials and financial analysis for the General Account business, including key metrics, messaging, investigation of trends, preparation of presentation decks and memos, and ad hoc requests as required.

  • Assist in gathering industry knowledge through research and financial analysis to offer value-add insights and recommendations to the CIO and GA Leadership Team. This includes the development of new reports, metrics, and analysis to support informed decision-making by senior executives.

  • Understand and acquire deep institutional knowledge of the insurance and investment business.

  • Review, support, and maintain reporting processes to support the evolving needs of the business.

  • Develop strong relationships with business partners and stakeholders.

  • Liaise with External Reporting and Communications teams to deliver accurate data and messaging for public dissemination.

  • Enhance existing processes and driving operational improvements.

How will you create impact?

Along with the responsibilities highlighted above, the Analyst, will contribute to the following aspects of management reporting and business analysis:

  • Consolidate, analyze, and synthesize large amounts of complex financial and non-financial information from numerous suppliers

  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail, focusing on financial integrity, consolidation, alignment, and consistency in the “look and feel” of deliverables

  • Work collaboratively with partners and stakeholders; building and leveraging relationships by understanding their issues and challenges

  • Initiate ongoing improvements by exploring, identifying, and implementing reporting, analysis, and process solutions.


What we are looking for

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent work experience (typically 2-3 years of experience) with investment industry knowledge

  • Must have strong time management and the ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines and changing priorities.

  • Diligent, well-organized, strong attention to detail, and excellent analytical skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; Experience with writing, analysis and storytelling for effective deck production.

  • Self-starter and team player with a high level of initiative, and the ability to gather, synthesize, organize and report information.

  • Professional work ethic, responsive, and able to perform well under pressure.

  • Proactive approach to continuous improvements and a positive, “can-do” attitude.

  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of products, including PowerPoint, Excel, and Teams. Experience in PowerBI a bonus.

  • Enrolled in or completion of Chartered Financial Analyst designation is an asset.

Salary & Benefits

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Primary Location

Toronto, Ontario

Salary range is expected to be between

$60,000.00 CAD - $100,000.00 CAD
