The opportunity


The Director, Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) is an integral part of the Finance and reports to the AVP Head of Finance. The role is responsible for the effective management and continuous improvement of the planning process, leading and developing a high-performing team responsible for forecasting, strategic business partnering, and insights as delivered through core planning processes, long-term modeling and ad-hoc strategic support.

The role is accountable for the overall build and implementation of the Bank annual planning processes and providing the overarching financial expertise and oversight of the strategic projects and the production of periodic forecasts and plans. The Director plays a crucial role in crafting the strategic direction of the Bank by supporting central initiatives. The Director supports Bank’s Executive Leadership Team by developing and implementing reporting that ensures that the Bank responds effectively, ensuring sustainability and successful in an ever-evolving marketplace.

Key Accountabilities:

Financial Planning & Analysis:

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with business organisations on financial strategies to facilitate the Bank’s growth and meet goals and objectives.

  • Build and develop the annual financial plan and production of relevant scenario analysis and stress testing to help drive short-term objectives and long-term growth

  • Consider relevant factors and data and rely on analysis and judgment for appropriate decision-making

  • Manage and drive forecasting reporting - analyze financial results, distill and synthesize issues and communicate key messages, including current and future business risks, to the Bank’s Senior Leadership Team

  • Collaborate with the Product Management team and Bank Treasury team on performing profitability analysis and provide insights and recommendations based on financial analysis, modelling and forecasting

  • Assist in setting critical metrics and financial goals

Strategic Initiatives:

  • Oversee the financial modeling and analysis for strategic projects, evaluating potential impacts on the Bank’s financial health and sustainability

  • Encourage teamwork between different departments to coordinate new projects and services with the overall objectives of the company, involving colleagues in the planning process.

  • Participate, as needed lead, projects/task forces in support of major Bank’s and Manulife-wide initiatives

Continuous Improvement:

  • Proactively working with the Bank’s Executive Leadership Team and leadership groups to grow and accelerate their areas through reporting, insights and recommendations, financial risk management, and collaborate problem-solving

  • Foster an environment of continual improvements and encourage the team to identify operational improvements/new ideas, and adopt effective approaches.

Leadership and Team Development:

  • Provide leadership coaching and mentoring to the team

  • Build talent capability and engage employees through focused career discussions and providing ongoing feedback and active consistent coaching to improve performance

  • Maintain an environment that motivates and recognizes individuals by communicating and celebrating small wins and large accomplishments when our values are demonstrated

What we are looking for

  • University degree

  • Accounting designation (CPA) with 8+ years of relevant experience in progressive accounting roles (Banking experience an asset)

  • Considerable knowledge of the theory, principles and techniques of the planning and forecasting

  • Effective and persuasive leadership comfortable with collaborating with all levels of collaborators.

  • Strong eye for business with ability to communicate complex financial concepts, analysis and results in a clear, concise, easy to understand manner

  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently, particularly in the area of using sound, independent judgment, problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Actively motivates and contributes to building team member capabilities by adjusting their leadership style to each individual/situation

  • Passionate about achieving desired outcomes, capable of meeting deadlines and balancing multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills to inspire, engage and provide clear direction to staff while coaching and motivating to achieve objectives

  • Strong intuition for business with ability to communicate complex financial concepts and results in a clear, concise, easy to understand manner (verbal & written).

  • Ability to challenge the status quo and deliver new/innovative improvements to the financial processes.

Salary range is expected to be between

$103,050.00 CAD - $185,490.00 CAD
