Director HR Business Partner

The opportunity:

We are looking for an experienced HR partner who demonstrates a focus and passion for the customer and for the business; someone who understands the complexities and nuances of building culture to inspire change at all levels, including senior leadership. More than anything, we're seeking an expert HR Business Partner who can work in the gray areas, all the while seeing the big picture, and can bring strategy and innovation to action and execution.

As an HR Partner for Manulife's Canada Segment, you will collaborate closely with senior leaders to gain a deep understanding of the business strategy, using this insight to develop people and talent strategies that enhance our culture and drive business success. Leveraging your HR Partner experience and expertise, you will provide consulting guidance, influence key initiatives and organizational changes, support the delivery of HR cycles and business initiatives, and play a crucial role in enhancing the experience and engagement of our colleagues and leaders.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Be a strategic partner to senior leaders in developing/implementing HR initiatives which support business unit strategies and enable the organization to anticipate and adapt to existing and future needs, improve efficiency, and meet business objectives.
  • Take an active role in conversations about the future, mission, goals, and overall strategy of the organization, able to offer insight and recommendations to influence key talent decisions.
  • Be the face of “One HR” to leadership, ensuring HR services and resources are delivered seamlessly and, in a customer-centric way, to support acquisition, engagement and retention of employees in line with business needs.
  • Actively analyze data with the goal of communicating insights back to the business to inform their people related strategies and priorities.
  • Be a proactive and strategic talent partner to drive our talent identification and development process to ensure that the business has sufficient bench strength and that succession plans are in place for senior leaders and other critical roles.
  • Support the delivery of all cyclical HR activities including the Employee Engagement Survey, Performance Planning, Talent Review, and Compensation Cycle for your assigned client groups
  • Anticipate and identify people-related risks and change impacts and support the development of mitigation strategies.

Required qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of broad based and progressive HR Partner experience in a large, multi-faceted organization.
  • Functional mastery in multiple Human Resources Management disciplines including organizational design, talent development, performance management, talent acquisition, employee engagement and more.
  • Strong eye for business with the ability to understand the strategic direction, mission, values, culture, priorities, and operational challenges and the ability to create and implement effective HR strategies to support these objectives.
  • A desire to learn all aspects of the business and understand its goals, combined with a deep caring for the business workforce and be a proactive force behind workforce strategy.
  • Confidence in providing insight to senior leaders in all areas of Human Resources activities including driving decisions on talent, compensation, org design, human capital alignment, and employee retention, and comfort in challenging their thinking when needed.
  • Excellent facilitation, influencing and communication skills; ability to build and maintain effective relationships.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, integrity and discretion to achieve high credibility and trust.
  • An action orientation, with the ability to manage and drive through ambiguity as needed.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree in business or human resources.
  • Experience in planning and change management principles, organizational effectiveness and reward and recognition concepts.
  • Good understanding of the relevant legislation, regulations and policies and the effective delivery of HR services.

Salary range is expected to be between

$100,950.00 CAD - $181,710.00 CAD
