Technical Training Manager

The Opportunity: Reporting to the Operations Leader, the Technical Training Manager role leads the design, creation, implementation, and evaluation of front-line team leaders and Senior team leaders training. The manager is also responsible for developing programs to improve individual, team and organization performance that is sustainable.

Working closely with the Senior Leadership Team, this role will build a matrixed training plan to meet the needs of the business. The Technical Training Manager role is key to the success of the Site and its commitment to training, developing, and equipping our future leaders with the tools, knowledge, and skills to best support our business moving forward.

Focus will be upon building Standardized Work Practices and Technical Skills to achieve and sustain breakthrough results. The expected outcome of this role is to:
  • Ensure Job Expectations are clear
  • Create a clear path for TLs and STLs to attain new skills
  • Coach leaders on proper onboarding technics
  • Ensure metrics are in place to identify developmental opportunities for our teams
  • Set our teams up for success by simplifying and standardizing the work we do
  • Follow the Is it Safe Effective and Efficient? approach
  • Ensure sustainable practices are in place and being followed by all departments
  • Manage a small team that ensures new/existing hourly employees are fully trained for the jobs they are performing

  • Identify needs and make recommendations on the continuous improvements for training systems and processes.
  • Perform needs analysis for the purpose of identifying specific training requirements within Production and Maintenance, making, and implementing agreed upon recommendations
  • Ensure Technical Knowledge Transfer occurs for new equipment and processes
  • Collaborate with department leads to design, develop, and maintain learning content
  • Contribute innovative approaches to the learning function to improve Effectiveness and Efficiency
  • Develop pre/post training measurement of effectiveness, consolidate feedback, and drive continuous improvement
  • Analyze training needs through needs-assessment process and identify performance improvement opportunities
  • Ensure that the plant has sufficient qualified people to ensure business continuity
  • Provide Ad Hoc support to New Hire Orientation and other Mandatory Training requirements currently owned by Human Resources, HSSE and FSQA.
  • Other projects as assigned
  • Several of the Key Performance Metrics that this Role will be responsible for or aid in improving are:
    • Examine KPIs and determine if standards are up to date or need improvement
    • Ensure HS, FSQA, People Metrics, Conformance and Variances are priorities
    • Safety Issues (Improve Work Designs, Ergonomics)
    • Cost to Qualification (Time to fully train and qualify a person)
    • DPC (direct product costing, labour utilization)
    • Turnover
    • Key Tools and Methodologies to be Leveraged
    • Alchemy
    • Lean Six Sigma OES Work Simplification / Visual Management Methodologies
    • Involvement in Industrial Engineering / Ergonomic Work Designs projects
    • Establish a training program that allows for planning; training; validating/qualifying; and improving process
What Youll Bring:
  • Post-secondary education in relevant area (Communications, Education, Adult Learning, Business, Human Resources) is preferred or relevant business experience
  • Experience in training, progressive learning, or people development.
  • Experience in Food Processing or as a Production Supervisor is an asset.
  • Management and/or supervisory experience is an asset.
  • Solid presentation skills with well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
  • Comfortable facilitating in person training and in spending time on the production floor.
  • Self-driven with a strong sense of urgency, resourcefulness, and ability to work independently and manage own schedule.
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Strategic thinker in creating learning designs and execute training through a practical approach.
  • Agile mindset and able to pivot in an evolving environment, with a mindset for continuous improvement.
  • Able to build strong connections and relationships with stakeholder groups across the organization.
  • Experience in Lean Six Sigma or Total Productive Maintenance is an asset.
