POSITION SUMMARY:
It is expected that the Product Engineer will establish expertise with relevant product families to support internal and external customers and represent Shawflex, a division of Mattr as a technical expert in the assigned market segment. Responsibilities will also include continuous improvement campaigns, product enhancement and maintenance projects, customer solution development, technical support, participation in Standard Committees, and customer visits or virtual meetings as a technical liaison.
DUTIES:
A) Product Engineering
-Participate and develop expertise in run to order products, including the configurator, shop order knowledge, IFS modifications, and general run to order administration items.
- Support and develop expertise in engineered to order product configuration for wire and cable product costing using configuration software and manual calculations as required.
- Participate and develop expertise in engineered to order product development, including qualification and testing, reporting, and engineering trials
-Execute product enhancement projects to ensure they are completed on time and on budget.
-Liaison with industry regulatory bodies to understand and initiate technical updates to product listing and new developments to achieve product certifications.
-Support the Sales team to ensure all technical related inquiries are organized and dealt with in a timely manner.
- Support Business Development team in assigned projects or as needed for technical support.
- Understand and interpret regulatory product standards (CSA, UL, ICEA and others) as it pertains to product configuration and approvals
-Creating and maintenance of engineering documentation not limited to ECRs, ECOs, PMS, technical documents etc.
B) Project Management:
-Provide engineering and project management services for customers to review potential projects and generate engineering solutions.
- Coordinate and oversee Projects/ Investigations/ NCRs/ Code compliance by Developing Project Plans, Timelines etc. to ensure project is completed on time and final deliverables meet stakeholder requirements, on time and on budget.
-Maintain a current list of project backlog
-Conduct regular day-to-day activities to manage project resources and report project status (internal/external).
C) Administration:
-Report activities in a clear concise manner through written and oral communication and ensure that Monthly Reports are completed within one week of month end.
-Liaise with regulatory bodies and their personnel.
-Establish and implement product approval programs.
-Participate in Standard Committee for assigned strategic market segment and visit key customers.
-Keep up-to-date on material and product technologies.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical) - must
Minimum 3 to 5 years of related experience
Project management experience
Knowledge of QA/QC systems and controls
Understand/interpret engineering specifications
Strong experience using CAD & MS Office
Cable design & manufacturing experience preferred
Experience with NEC, CEC and other global standards
Professional Engineer Status or PMP (Or working towards) is preferred
Electrical calculation/simulation experience a plus
Extrusion and polymer experience a plus
High degree of attention to detail and organization
Excellent communication skills
Problem Solving and trouble-shooting skills
