Job Title: High School Chef

Job Description:

Monsignor McCoy High School is seeking a dedicated and experienced Chef to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing nutritious and appealing meals for students and staff, purchasing food ingredients, and managing the kitchen budget. The Chef will play a crucial role in ensuring that our school's food service operations run smoothly and efficiently while maintaining high standards of food quality and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

Food Preparation:

Prepare and cook a variety of meals for students and staff, ensuring all dietary needs and preferences are accommodated.

Create menus that are nutritious, balanced, and appealing to a diverse student population.

Maintain high standards of food quality, presentation, and taste.

Purchasing and Inventory Management:

Order and purchase food ingredients, supplies, and equipment needed for meal preparation.

Monitor inventory levels and ensure that all ingredients are fresh and available as needed.

Establish relationships with suppliers to secure the best prices and quality for food products.

Budget Management:

Develop and manage the kitchen budget, ensuring that expenditures are within allocated funds.

Track and record all financial transactions related to food purchases and kitchen operations.

Implement cost-effective measures to reduce waste and optimize resource usage.

Kitchen Management:

Ensure the kitchen and food storage areas are clean, organized, and comply with health and safety regulations.

Train and supervise kitchen staff and volunteers, ensuring they follow proper food handling and sanitation procedures.

Conduct regular inspections of kitchen equipment and report any maintenance or repair needs.

Collaboration and Communication:

Work closely with school administration, staff, and students to gather feedback and continuously improve the food service program.

Participate in school events and activities that involve food preparation and service.

Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding special dietary needs and menu options.

Qualifications:

Proven experience as a chef or cook, preferably in a school or institutional setting.

Culinary degree or equivalent certification is preferred.

Strong knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.

Excellent organizational and time management skills.

Ability to manage a budget and perform basic financial tasks.
