The Assistant Controller will support the preparation of financial statements that adhere to regulatory and accounting guidelines. Working under the guidance of the Controller, ultimately reporting to the Corporate Head Office, your primary objective will be to ensure that the company’s accounting and financial processes meet established standards and targeted deadlines, promoting accurate financial reporting and effective control.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to all aspects of the accounting cycle by actively collaborating with the Controller and Corporate Head Office;
  • Help in development and distribution of reporting for management or regulatory bodies;
  • Process accounts payable, including receipt, verification and validation of accounting coding, and support the entry of invoices and expense reports into the accounting system;
  • Process accounts receivable, including entering payments, monitoring accounts receivable, and issuing and sending invoices;
  • Help with month-end closing and preparation of financial statements in compliance with guidelines and requirements, including compiling data and entering reclassification and adjustment entries;
  • Help prepare documents for annual audit;
  • Classify, archive and update files under your responsibility, including documentation of procedures;
  • Assist in the formulation of internal controls and policies to comply with legislation and established best practices;
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets or forecasts;
  • Review the company’s accounting information to identify and resolve inaccuracies or imbalances;
  • Any other related tasks.

Requirements and skills

  • Proven experience as assistant controller or other similar position
  • Solid knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and regulations
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting and financial processes (budgeting, financial closure, reporting etc.)
  • Understanding of data analysis and forecasting
  • Working knowledge of MS Office (especially excel) and accounting software
  • Well-organized with ability to prioritize and meet strict deadlines
  • Very good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving ability
  • BSc/BA in accounting, finance or relevant field is preferred
  • CPA Professional Designation (an asset)
