A role as an Analyst in the Loan Structuring & Syndication team ("LSS") at National Bank Financial Markets ("NBF") means actively participating and supporting team members from A - Z in the life cycle of a bank loan. The analyst supports team members from the origination of a bank loan to its distribution (if syndicated) and financial close within the Project Finance industry.
The Analyst will evolve in a team of highly motivated professionals, collaborate and learn about a broad range of capital markets products within NBF. This position appeals to individuals who are interested in pursuing a career in an entrepreneurial, fast paced and high-energy environment.

Your Job
  • Conduct financial and comparable transaction analysis to propose supportable and syndicatable financing structures
  • Prepare marketing and pitch materials to be presented to existing and potential clients which could include financing terms and conditions, syndication strategies, capital structure considerations, benchmarking analysis and other applicable information
  • Help manage the distribution process in the syndication of transactions under the corporate portfolio in Toronto, including coordinating lender meetings, virtual data rooms, lenders’ Q&A etc.
  • Develop a network with corporate banking and syndication desks at other financial institutions
  • Maintain pitch resources and benchmarking databases


Your Team

Operating under NBC’s NBF division, the Corporate and Investment Banking ("CIB") group comprises over 300 professionals located in offices in Montreal, Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver, and New York and offers a full suite of financial solutions to large corporations, including equity and debt underwriting, mergers and acquisitions advisory, corporate lending and risk management solutions. NBF provides a wide array of lending services including traditional operating and term financings, acquisition financings, and cross-border financings which could range up to $5Bn+.
As part of CIB, LSS is a team of 25 professionals focused on the origination, structuring, pricing, and distribution process for all syndicated loans at NBC. LSS team members interact with various external and internal stakeholders, including clients, lending and investment banking coverage teams, other syndicate lenders, portfolio management, credit adjudicators, and agency and operational groups. LSS has demonstrated considerable momentum over the last few years, culminating in record deal flow and 200+ Lead Left accounts, of which 110+ are outside of Quebec.
This position is based in Calgary.

Basic Requirements
  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field (e.g. B.Comm., B.B.A.)
  • Professional designation (e.g. CPA, CFA) considered an asset
  • Experience in the renewables and/or infrastructure Project Finance sectors considered an asset
  • Keen and demonstrated interest in business and finance, with a predisposition towards credit
  • Excellent numerical and analytical abilities with a good understanding of financial transactions and their related risks
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment with competing demands and quick turnarounds in response to time-sensitive client needs are required
  • Positive can-do attitude
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to use judgment to identify and diagnose problems within given constraints
  • Excellent problem solving skills and resourcefulness
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills, both with internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent communication and writing skills with an ability to present ideas in a concise and well-structured manner
  • Well-developed computer skills, with an emphasis on Microsoft Office Suite
  • Bloomberg, Refinitiv and CapIQ knowledge are considered assets
