A career as an Associate or Associate Director in the Financial Markets Business Operational Strategy, Resilience & Risk Management team at National Bank means supporting the Business Line in the identification, assessment, monitoring and management, of its operational risks by deploying an efficient, practical, and tailored approach that considers the specific context of Financial Markets. Your Job
  • Develop and maintain relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders involved in the Financial Markets end-to-end business processes.
  • Participate in transversal investigations and formulate/initiate the orientation, decisions, and business practices regarding the sector's processes to ensure efficiency and reduce the operational risks.
  • Carry out several initiatives and mandates requesting an in-depth knowledge of financial markets products, systems and end-to-end processes.
  • Perform walkthroughs and effectiveness testing of key controls in accordance with the Bank's Operational Risk taxonomy.
  • Support the Business Line in monitoring its action plans and implementing its corrective measures.
  • Take on the responsibility of various ad hoc issues to support Financial Markets in ensuring their delivery.
  • Initiated strategic changes/Develop approaches, programs, processes or systems to support Financial Markets orientations and act as subject matter expert for major sector of activity.
  • Forese issues, develop and implement new solutions to address operation risk for our sectors of activities.
  • Provide specialized advice requiring a broad vision of a Financial Market sector and in-depth understanding of business issues.

You will be part of a team of 25 colleagues across the FM Business Operational Strategy, Resilience & Risk Management group, and you will report to the Director of Operational Risk Manager. This position is based in Montreal or Toronto.

Basic Requirements
  • A bachelor's or master's degree in a related field with 5-7 years of relevant experience (i.e., operations, capital markets, audit, compliance, risk management).
  • Experience in Operational Risk management, risk assessments, banking and/or brokerage regulation (i.e. CIRO, OSFI) is highly desirable.
  • Experience in performing walkthroughs and controls testing is highly desirable.
  • Expert knowledge of Financial Markets activities, products and structures as well as the supporting systems and processes.
  • Well-developed Entrepreneurial Spirit and a Demonstrated Leadership.
  • Excellent judgment.
  • Ability to quickly grasp the key elements surrounding complex financial concepts nested in intricate processes.
  • Proven ability to solve complex problems & focused on delivering tangible results.
  • Innovative & Excellent priority management.
  • Strong demonstrated interpersonal skills (cooperation, mobilization, influence).
  • Comfortable working in a stressful, ambiguous and constant evolving environment to support a demanding professional clientele.
