Our Red Chris Mine, located in the heart of Northern British Columbia on the traditional territory of the Tahltan Nation. The General Trainer supports safe and effective onboarding and training across Red Chris by delivering consistent, practical, and values-aligned training to employees, business partners, and visitors.
Reporting to the Lead, Training - Red Chris, this position facilitates daily site orientations, VOC assessments, and mobile equipment training, while coordinating onboarding and shutdown-specific training schedules. The General Trainer works across departments to ensure training aligns with site procedures, legal obligations, and operational readiness.
By providing field-based instruction and supporting continuous improvement through frontline insights, this role contributes to Newmont’s operational safety, compliance, and workforce development.
This position has a competitive base salary between 83,400-111,180 , with an additional short-term incentive. The offered base salary will be determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies, with consideration to internal equity.
- Deliver daily and weekly onboarding programs, including full-day orientations for new employees and contractors.
- Facilitate visitor orientations and safety briefings to ensure safe site access for all personnel.
- Conduct Verification of Competency (VOC) assessments on operational tasks and auxiliary mobile equipment (not including large heavy equipment such as haul trucks).
- Deliver classroom and field-based training for various mobile and stationary equipment, including: Skid Steer Loaders, Telehandlers, Aerial Work Platforms (AWP), Overhead Cranes, Vertical and Counterbalance Forklifts.
- Support training coordination during scheduled shutdowns by delivering pre-task training and confirming compliance requirements.
- Adapt and update existing training materials to reflect changes in equipment, procedures, or site expectations.
- Collaborate with supervisors and SMEs to align training activities with day-to-day operational requirements.
- Maintain accurate training records using systems such as SuccessFactors and ensure readiness for audits or inspections.
- Provide constructive feedback to improve training delivery, clarity, and learner engagement.
- Mentor and support employees in their development and understanding of site practices and safety expectations.
- Model safety-first behaviors and inclusive communication in all training interactions.
- Support training activities without owning production task allocation or operational decision-making.
- Support integration of new training tools and digital platforms to enhance delivery and learner engagement.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of site-wide training programs in collaboration with the Training Lead, Coordinators, and subject matter experts
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in mining, heavy industrial, or processing environments.
- At least 2 years in a training, supervisory, or safety-related role.
- Demonstrated experience facilitating equipment or compliance-based training.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and contractor/visitor onboarding procedures.
- Train-the-Trainer certification or equivalent instructional experience (preferred).
- Instructor certifications such as WHMIS, First Aid, Fall Protection, Confined Space are assets.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with SuccessFactors or LMS tools is beneficial.
- Familiarity with BC Mines Act, OH&S regulations, and related compliance frameworks.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to support engagement and understanding across diverse audiences.
- Mines Supervisor Certification (via Open School BC or equivalent) is considered a strong asset. If not currently held, the successful candidate must be willing to complete it should site needs require.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
