Our Red Chris Mine, located in the heart of Northern British Columbia on the traditional territory of the Tahltan Nation. A short distance from Iskut and Dease Lake, Our fly-in, fly-out site offers access from various points across British Columbia and Alberta. Red Chris currently operates as an open-pit copper and gold mine with a promising future to transition to a high-value underground block cave operation. Our Red Chris operation is now recruiting for the position of project Trainer with a competitive base salary between $110,000.00-$120,000 dependant on experience, skills, and qualifications.
The Project Trainer ensures Newmont’s workforce is prepared for success in the Mill Expansion and Block Caving Projects. This role develops and delivers competency-based training programs tailored to project-specific needs. Reporting to the Training and Development Superintendent, the Project Trainer collaborates with site teams across pit operations, maintenance, mill operations, and general training. By conducting training needs analyses, promoting safety, innovation, and sustainability, and leveraging technology, this role supports workforce readiness and aligns with Newmont’s values and global competitiveness
• Safety & Compliance: Embed Newmont’s safety standards in all training, ensuring compliance with regulations and site-specific protocols.
• Training Needs Analysis: Identify skill gaps and develop competency-based programs for Mill Expansion and Block Caving Projects, aligned with project timelines.
• Sustainability: Incorporate ESG principles and responsible resource management into training content.
• Collaboration: Work with pit operations, maintenance, and mill teams to align training with site priorities and operational goals.
• Advanced Technologies: Utilize VR, simulations, and AI to enhance learning experiences.
• Records & Compliance: Maintain accurate training records and skills matrices to meet regulatory and company standards.
• Reporting & Improvement: Provide training progress reports, analyzing data to identify continuous improvement opportunities.
• Mentorship: Coach employees to support leadership development and skills growth.
• Diversity & Inclusion: Design culturally sensitive training and engage with local and Indigenous communities.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with vendors, regulatory bodies, and SMEs to ensure training relevance and quality.
• Program Development: Develop and refine training packages under Projects HR guidance, ensuring accuracy and alignment with company standards.
• Approval Process: Coordinate training approval committees for content review, validation, and approval.
• Content Management: Act as a liaison between third-party developers and SMEs to ensure technical accuracy and operational relevance.
• Knowledge Transfer: Participate in vendor-led sessions during commissioning to build internal training capabilities.
• Operationalization: Ensure smooth implementation of training programs aligned with organizational objectives.
• Continuous Improvement: Evaluate program effectiveness and recommend enhancements to improve learning outcomes.
• Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Education, or a related field, or equivalent experience in training and development within mining. Minimum 7 years of experience in training and development, with at least 3 years in project-based roles (e.g., mill expansion, block caving, or similar operations).
• Technical Expertise: Knowledge of mining equipment, automation technologies, remote operations, and key processes related to mill expansions and block caving.
• Training Development: Proven ability to design and deliver competency-based training programs using tools like VR platforms, simulation software, and e-learning systems.
• Regulatory Compliance: Strong understanding of safety standards, regulatory requirements, and compliance practices in mining operations.
• Analytical Skills: Proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools, such as Power BI, to track training progress and outcomes.
• Project Management: Experience planning, organizing, and executing training initiatives within defined timelines.
• Certifications: Instructional design certifications (e.g., CTDP or equivalent) and Emergency Response or Mine Rescue certifications (or willingness to obtain).
• Cultural Awareness: Ability to work effectively in cross-cultural environments and develop culturally sensitive training, particularly for Indigenous and local communities.
• Driver’s License: Valid Class 5 license and ability to work in remote and underground locations.

The expected salary range for this role is CA$110,000-120,000 . This range is tied to the British Columbia market for jobs performed in British Columbia. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s pay history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about pay history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.
