Intervenor (casual)

O ur Casual Intervenors work on an on call, “as needed” basis, filling in for Intervenor staff who are away or where additional support is required . An Intervenor assists special need students in achieving personal, social and academic development under the direction of the classroom teacher.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT:
Communicate with deaf-blind persons who rely on you to interact with them in a wide variety of modes
Support the student to develop skills which promote effective participation in the classroom setting
Develop student’s skills in signing vocabulary and grammar, finger spelling and American Sign Language terminology
Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and ASL into manual forms of English while maintaining neutrality, impartiality and professionalism. Information will need to be translated and concepts explained accurately, clearly and concisely
Provide remedial assistance in all subjects to facilitate the integration of special needs students in the regular classroom
Work as part of a team using programming techniques to support the curriculum requirements
Communicate with the classroom teacher regarding curricular vocabulary and lesson content
Assist in maintaining student conduct by supervising students during field trips, gymnasium periods and regular assigned periods (Yard Duty)
Dispense and administer student’s medication, maintaining accurate records
Provide routine duties and documentation such as health reports, log notes
Provide personal care as required (e.g., lifts and transfers, toileting, hygiene, and other attendant care functions)
WHAT YOU BRING:
Successful completion of the Intervenor Diploma from a Community College
Willingness and ability to work with teachers with needs of students in an integrated setting
Strong interpersonal, communication, written and oral skills
Current First Aid and CPR certification an asset
LOCATIONS:
Must be able to travel to all locations within the Niagara Catholic District School Board jurisdiction
HOURS:
Varies as needed, on a casual, on call basis. Must be available Monday to Friday for Elementary and Secondary School hours. There is no guarantee of hours, but an employee with full availability could work full-time based on system needs.
