Description
Installing, calibrating, configuring, maintaining, servicing, testing, troubleshooting, analyzing and upgrading measurement and control devices and systems, used in water & wastewater systems. Servicing of micro processing instruments, including ‘Bus’ network communication systems and wireless communications. Investigate and diagnose process faults and troubleshoot process operations. Perform scheduled instrument and device maintenance routines, including participating in the commissioning of new or upgraded control system projects, ensuring adherence to Region Automation Standards. Assist Engineering in design, modification and hazard analysis, while also working with Plant Operations to optimize plant controls. Work performed must be in compliance with provincial, municipal, industrial and site specific standards, codes and regulations. Utilize an asset computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to assist in management of work requests, tasks, parts used and resource hours spent.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
- Completion of a three (3) year Electrical Engineering Technology diploma with a specialty in Control Systems (or related area of study) and Certificate of Qualification for the Instrumentation & Control Technician or Electrical trade.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE
- Completion of 8000 hours of work experience to possess a Certificate of Qualification for Instrumentation & Control Technician (447A) or Electrical (309/442) trade.
- Completion of Certificate of Apprenticeship in 447A/309/442 Licences is considered an asset.
- Minimum of five (5) years of instrumentation maintenance, calibration, process operation and control design experience, preferably in Water/Wastewater Systems or a similar environment.
- Knowledge of Allen Bradley Programmable Logic Controllers, Ladder Logic Programming, HART Protocol Communication, Wireless Communication Networks, Bus Communication Networks, Windows XP/7/10, and various analytical and non analytical Instrumentation Calibration, Troubleshooting and Testing techniques.
- Must successfully obtain MECP Operator-in-Training certification in Water Treatment and Water Distribution within three (3) months of commencing employment, pass Class I Water Treatment exam within 18 months and obtain Class 1 Water Treatment certification within 60 months. Alternatively, incumbents may elect to pursue a Water Quality Analyst certification, within 18 months of commencing employment, in lieu of obtaining their Class 1 Water Treatment certification.
- Operator-in-Training certification in Wastewater Treatment and Wastewater Collection is considered an asset.
- Must be willing to undertake additional levels of training prescribed in the Regulations.
- Must possess a sound working knowledge of computer systems and programming, PLCs, process automation techniques, electronics, mathematics, chemistry, contract drawings and specifications, and electrical engineering principles.
- Demonstrated experience and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook), and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (e.g. Enterprise Asset Management).
- Training and Certification in WHMIS and First Aid/CPR, Fall Protection and Lock out Tag out.
- Training and a valid certificate for Confined Space Entry, Materials Handling, and Transportation of Dangerous Goods are considered assets.
- Must have working knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regional Niagara's Health and Safety Policies and Procedures.
SKILLS
- Must possess above average computer skills.
- Must be able to train staff or others.
- Must be able to work without direct supervision.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
- It is the employee’s responsibility to possess and maintain a valid and restriction-free driver’s license of appropriate class to carry out the duties of the job (Class G).
- Must comply with all aspects of the Regional Respiratory Program Policy. Respiratory Fit Test mandatory.
- In accordance with the Corporate Criminal Record Check Policy, the position requires the incumbent to undergo a Criminal Records Check and submit a Canadian Police Clearance Certificate.
- Must be willing to take additional training as required and assigned by the employer.
- Must be an active member in good standing of the Ontario College of Trades.
