Description
JOB SUMMARY
Create uniform traffic control and custom design signs by various means including screen-printing and vinyl overlay techniques utilising specialized computer software. Perform duties of the Sign Maker II as required.
- Completion of Grade 12.
- Plus a 2 year Community College Program in Graphic Arts/Design.
- Must have completed additional courses in graphics such as Sign Lab, Corel Draw, Roland Versaworks or equivalent.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE
- More than 3 years of experience in a traffic sign shop or other similar environment.
- Must be able to perform duties of Sign Maker II in his/her absence or when otherwise required.
- Must possess knowledge of the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario, Ontario Traffic Manual, Highway Traffic Act, and Niagara Region Policies and Procedures.
- Must possess knowledge of sign design, graphic applications, photo screen processing, and sign manufacturing.
- Must possess knowledge of the operation of a computer controlled plotter, Versacam colour printer plotter, vinyl roller applicator, punch presses, and other related sign shop equipment.
- Knowledge of accounting principles and procedures related to supply cost estimates for internal and external budgeting purposes is an asset.
- Must have a working knowledge of the electronic sign shop work order tracking system.
- Must possess the ability to conceptualize, develop and present design solutions to clients, other Regional departments, external agencies, suppliers and manufacturers.
- Must possess a demonstrated ability to perform computerized design, both layout and cutting, utilizing computer software including but not limited to: Adobe Acrobat Reader, Corel Draw, Sign Lab, Roland Versaworks, and HP Precision Scan Pro.
- Must possess a demonstrated ability to work with digital photographs, scanning imagery, and electronic file transfer protocols.
- Must possess the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects concurrently and meet production deadlines.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
- It is the employee’s responsibility to possess and maintain a valid and restriction-free driver’s license of appropriate class to carry out the duties of the job. (“G” License)
- Must complete WHMIS. training.
- Must be willing and able to take additional training as required.
