Northern Lights Public Schools is located in the heart of Alberta’s Lakeland region, which offers residents a multitude of outdoor recreation opportunities and stunning displays of the Aurora Borealis. The division is focused on ensuring all students have the opportunity to succeed and has designated numeracy and student mental health and wellness as division priorities.

Northern Lights Public Schools invites applications for the following position:

S2425-19 Student Advocacy Counselor - Duclos School

This is a part-time (0.5 fte) position commencing at the start of the 2024-2025 school year. The Student Advocacy Counselor promotes student success, provides preventative services and responds to identified student needs. The successful applicant will provide universals for the entire school that targets executive functioning and social skills.

Duclos School is located in the Town of Bonnyville with approximately 400 students in grades K to 4. Duclos School has been a proud part of the Bonnyville community since 1916 and has a rich history with long held traditions of developing mind and character in a safe, caring, and vibrant learning environment.

Preference will be given to applicants who have :

A minimum qualification of a Social Work Diploma or greater

A personal philosophy for creating strong relationships with youth and families

Ability to provide counseling for students

Ability to provide support and referrals for students and families

Ability to develop behaviour support plans

Ability to provide crisis intervention

Proven ability to be a strong contributing member of a motivated team

Previous experience with Google Workspace (Google Classroom, Meet, Drive, etc.)

A understanding of intergenerational trauma, indigenous culture, healing circles, restorative justice, etc.
