The community of Canso has an opportunity for one full-time physician. There is opportunity to engage in research and/or teaching positions with Dalhousie University, if that is of interest. The local community hospital, Eastern Memorial Hospital, serves the population in the eastern portion of Guysborough County. The nearest regional hospital, St. Martha's Regional Hospital, is approximately 130 kilometres from Canso. The compensation model for the position is an alternate payment plan (APP). The family practice office is community owned and staffed with administrative support.

- the physician will be responsible to the Zone Department Head of Family Practice for their professional responsibilities and quality of practice, and will operate within the Medical Staff Bylaws of the Nova Scotia Health Authority.
