What can I expect to do in this role?In this role, you will:
• Maintain proper sanitation of the kitchen, dining, storage and washing areas, and equipment
• Follow guidelines and ensure proper controls and documentation of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point Program (HACCP) in the receipt, preparation, storage, assembly and distribution of food items
• Inventory leftover cold meals and coordinate set-up and delivery of mealtime service
• Assist with the rethermalization for meal service set-up and delivery
• Ensure the safety and security, staff, equipment and ingredients
• Perform receiving duties and complete documentation of goods and equipment
• Supervise and instruct offender helpers including writing performance reports

How do I qualify?Mandatory• You possess a Valid Food Handler Certificate (either currently or previously certified and can obtain re-certification upon hire)
• You possess current First Aid and Heartsaver Certificates (or the ability to obtain)

Knowledge and Experience• You have experience using kitchen equipment and tools to prepare snacks and cold meals
• You have knowledge and experience with various diets (i.e. lifestyle, medical, religious)
• You have experience with cook-chill/retherm safety principles as well as volume cooking
• You have knowledge of food safety practices
• You have experience following health and safety standards and practices
• You can understand and comply with organizational policies and protocols
• You can supervise offender helpers in close quarters and evaluate their performance

Skills• You have analytic skills to recognize workplace hazards and take corrective action
• You have oral communication skills to interact with staff as well as supervise and direct offender helpers
• You have written communication and basic computer skills to prepare performance reports for offender helpers
• You have problem-solving skills to recognize and report food shortages as well as observe and report any potential problems in food quality, sanitation, or hygiene control
