What can I expect to do in this role?You will:

• operate and drive heavy equipment (i.e. bed or semi-trailers, graders, backhoes, front end loaders, 5-6 tonne trucks, 4 wheel drive, wheeled tractors, sewage pumper trucks, etc.)
• perform routine maintenance on equipment, buildings and facilities
• organize and perform work activities by making arrangements for the use of proper equipment, material and labour
• inspect complete work and maintenance projects
• review and maintain records, contracts, and work activities
• compile and record information related to highway and road inventories and maintenance work

How do I qualify?Mandatory requirements:• You must possess a valid driver's licence.
• You must possess a valid 'DZ' licence. (You will need to provide a copy of your valid certificate if invited to an interview.)
• You must have the ability to operate heavy equipment (i.e. bed or semi-trailers, graders, backhoes, front end loaders, 5-6 tonne trucks, 4 wheel drive, wheeled tractors, etc.).
• You must have the ability to work shifts, weekends and statutory holidays per schedule.

Technical knowledge and experience:• You possess an in-depth understanding of and experience in road maintenance and repair to ensure travel roadway are safe and maintained to ministry standards.
• You possess knowledge of and experience conducting maintenance operations and activities (road repair, sewage and sanitation, building maintenance, etc.) for all seasons.

Knowledge:• You are knowledgeable of contract management to get work completed on difficult/complex maintenance work.
• You possess knowledge of financial policies and processes to administer contracts and stay within budget.
• You have knowledge of and are able to apply and interpret policies, procedures, regulations and manuals to work safely and in compliance of regulations.

Communication and interpersonal skills:• You possess communication skills to effectively summarize and provide clear information on work duties and program plans.
• You have interpersonal skills to deal with internal and external stakeholders on contracts and maintenance jobs.

Organizational and coordination skills:• You possess organizational skills to deal with multiple projects with varying deadlines and competing demands.
• You have well developed coordination skills to plan multi-faceted projects dealing with various maintenance requirements and that have a varying degree of complexity.
• You can work alone with minimal supervision as well as in a team environment.
