Note: This posting is for a twelve (12) month temporary opportunity with the possibility of extension. The results of this competition will be used to fill current and future temporary and permanent opportunities with qualified eligible candidate within the unit during the next 12 months following the competition closing.
About Us:
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is one of North America's largest deployed police services with more than 5,800 uniformed officers, 2,400 civilian employees and 830 Auxiliary officers. We provide essential services that ensure the safety and security of the people of the Province of Ontario. The OPP is a division of the Ministry of the Solicitor General, the largest operational ministry in the province with a presence in every community across Ontario. We are the largest police service in Ontario and the second largest in Canada.
The Uniform Recruitment Unit is a part of Career Development Bureau and is responsible for hiring hundreds of new recruits and experienced police officers each year. The 80-person team includes recruiters, administrators, psychologists, social media and outreach coordinators and background investigators. Uniform Recruitment works closely with other program areas in order to support their staffing needs.

What can I expect to do in this role?To provide psychological services through the administration of psychometric assessments to screen all new uniform employees, to evaluate potential transfers of existing employees to specialized units and to assess some civilian employees for specific positions.
How do I qualify?Mandatory• Ability to pass an OPP background/ security investigation.
• A valid Class G Driver's licence for the purpose of travelling to various locations to perform required testing.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities• Knowledge of:
o Theories of human development and relevant psychological theories, methodologies and practices including the fundamental principles and theories related to the psychological testing principles to provide screening and interpretation services through the selection, administration and scoring of a range of psychological tests.
o Microsoft Office Suite to produce reports and maintain and store accurate confidential records.
o The Canadian Code of Ethics for psychologists.
• Interpersonal and oral communication skills to provide guidance to staff and applicants and to discuss complex issues or problems concerning assessments with supervising psychologist and other stakeholders.
• Written communication skills, including the use of specialized terminology to prepare assessment reports and specific research projects.
• Creativity, problem solving and analytical skills to identify appropriate strategies and resources for assessing candidates, to analyze qualitative and quantitative statistical data and to interpret and validate results.
• Ability to work effectively as a member of a team and to navigate stressful situations.
