Analyst, Sustainability Reporting & Analytics (12 month contract)

The opportunity

The Analyst, Sustainability Reporting & Analytics will be responsible for supporting and contributing to various mandates and projects of the group, including sustainability reporting. This role will serve as a direct resource to the Senior Manager, Sustainability Reporting & Analytics.

Sustainability reporting, analytics, and related information is used for external reporting purposes and by the Investment Division to inform investment and strategic decisions.

Who you'll work with

The Analyst will support and contribute to various projects and mandates within the Sustainability Reporting & Analytics group and will regularly interact with partners and team members across OTPP, including Investments, Finance, Risk, IT, and various external vendors.

What you'll do

Reporting & Analytics

  • Responsible for the calculation and analysis of the monthly Portfolio Carbon Footprint (PCF) related to private and public investments. This will include performing monthly data cleansing procedures over PCF data.

  • Support the interaction with external service providers where necessary to investigate and resolve data issues arising from the monthly PCF process (i.e., S&P, FactSet).

  • Support the preparation of sustainability related analysis (including the PCF, Operational Carbon Footprint, and other sustainability reporting and disclosure), including measuring the foregoing against established targets, where relevant.

  • Support and contribute to the automation of sustainability related calculations and management reporting and explore ability to drive deeper analytics and insights, as well as continue deployment and enhancement of self-service tools such as PowerBI.

  • Collect, organize and analyze detailed information and data sets needed for sustainability related measurements and disclosure.

  • Prepare high quality qualitative and quantitative analysis to drive significant insights in relation to sustainability reporting and associated metrics, where required.

  • Conduct research and support the implementation of new sustainability standards (e.g., ISSB, CSRD).

  • Support the Senior Manager and Director with various internal management reporting and presentations to senior management.

Technology

  • Support the ongoing maintenance of the automated PCF tool.

  • Conduct testing over data integrity and validity with respect to enhancement projects for the PCF tool, and communicate with the EOD team to investigate and resolve issues as required.

  • Other duties as required.

Complexity

  • There is some degree of decision making and discretion required in this role.

  • This position serves as a direct resource to the Manager and is not expected to make any independent operational decisions.

  • With respect to the PCF process for private holdings, judgement is required when collecting information from data sources.

Accountability

  • Generally low responsibility for results but expected to complete the allocated work on-time and communicate any issues to the Manager quickly. Little or no decision making authority and decisions/actions are reversible in the event of error. Highly supervised/guided and provided with a lot of direction from Manager.

  • Has expanded autonomy with respect to resolving issues. The Analyst would be the ones to first identify the source/cause of the issue, then investigate, by reaching out to either FactSet or our EOD/IT team (depending on the source of the issue) to help resolve the issue. The manager would still be involved throughout the process and make any final decisions on the path forward to resolve the issue.

    What you'll need

    • 1 - 2 years of experience in a Sustainability Reporting team or more broadly within Finance required.

    • University Degree with a major/specialization in Finance, Accounting, or Sustainability.

    • Working knowledge of public market securities (public equity, credit, derivatives) and private investments desirable.

    • Knowledge of performing variance analysis/analytics

    • Knowledge of PowerBI capabilities preferred.

    • Knowledge of SQL capabilities preferred.

    • Experience preparing management reporting and analytics preferred.

    • Experience working in sustainability reporting/analytics preferred.

    • Experience organizing, analyzing and working with large data sets.
