The opportunity
This position is a key role underlying all project and initiative delivery. Business analysis is required to understand, document and facilitate agreement on requirements, approaches, specifications and decision variables (e.g. outcomes / objectives, costs / benefits, quality levels, etc.) that enable the delivery of appropriate solutions to achieve the vision of the Business.
The incumbent applies business analysis practices and leverages deep client knowledge in order to achieve initiative delivery benefits including agility and quality. This is a hands-on role that proactively applies analysis expertise in a dynamic and challenging environment.
Who you'll work with
Business Analysts (BAs) at OTPP work collaboratively with other “solution teams” including Relationship & Application Management, Project Management, Solutions Engineering and QA. All of these solution teams operate together in virtual units that align to discrete Business lines / functions such as Front Office, Financial Operations, Strategy & Risk, Finance, Legal Compliance, Data, Corporate and Enterprise Operations.
What you'll do
Engages Business to elicit and facilitate agreement on requirements (e.g. outcomes, objectives, scope, functionality, etc.) of prioritized initiatives
Accountable for creating business analysis materials (e.g. functional and non-functional requirements, workflows, functional specifications, data mapping, stories {for Agile}, etc.) with appropriate detail and quality for coding and testing teams to consume and complete their respective deliverables from
Conceives, proposes and facilitates the selection of viable functional solution alternatives
Accountable for demonstrating requirements traceability and, as required, for performing some testing activities (define approach, write test cases, execute test cases). Works with Business, Solutions Engineering and QA to ensure built solutions meet stated requirements.
Participates in BA approach selection and planning activities required for initiative delivery
References and applies Teachers’ Delivery Framework in the context of delivering of business analysis functions and materials
Responds to ad-hoc queries on functionality in the context of providing solution warranty and BAU support services
Conducts user training
Builds solid partnerships with Business management and staff, Client Relationship and Application Managers, and other key stakeholders
Contributes to the improvement of BA standards and practices by making and implementing recommendations in consultation with the Business Analysis senior leader
Contributes to the operation and improvement of their aligned delivery team / program
Manages the creation of business analysis materials and deliverables according to negotiated priorities, quality levels and timelines
Exercises appropriate judgment in identifying and escalating risks and issues
Can plan and coordinate the activities of other solution teams as part of delivering small and medium enhancements to Business
Recommends BA processes (e.g., business and data requirements) and work estimates.
Sets and affirms achievement of quality levels of own Business Analysis deliverables.
What you'll need
University degree or equivalent experience (Business/Finance, Financial Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering)
Asset would be one or more of: Certified Business Analysis Professional, Process improvement methodology accreditation, CFA, Certified Enterprise Data Professional
Good understanding of one or more of the following Business areas / industries, inclusive of the data and technology solutions that enable them: Institutional Investment Management / Capital Markets (financial products and their front-through-back office lifecycle); Corporate Functions (e.g., Human Resources, Legal, etc.); Enterprise Collaboration; Enterprise Operations
Good understanding of the business objectives, processes and practices related to the aligned client(s)
Good understanding of techniques and tools pertaining to the planning, analysis, design, development, testing, deployment and maintenance of technology solutions
Good understanding of agile and waterfall project management delivery methodologies and the difference between needs and wants
Good understanding of solutions and technologies supporting the current and future needs of the business
Ability to prioritize, coordinate and complete tasks to meet deadlines
Proactive customer service focus
Excellent organizational, planning, analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with multiple levels of clients, team and partners
Intermediate data analysis capabilities, including working knowledge of Power BI, Oracle and MS SQL query.
Minimum 4 years’ experience in one or more of the following roles: Business Analyst; Business Consultant; Business Systems Analyst; Data Analyst
Experience collaborating with project delivery and technology teams to deliver solutions that solve business problems and meet business requirements
Experience working in or serving / enabling one or more of the following business areas / industries: Institutional Investment Management / Capital Markets; Corporate Functions (e.g., Human Resources, Legal, etc.); Enterprise Operations
Experience working with solutions and technologies that support the business
Experience in translating business requirements to technical specifications
Experience with devising processes and workflows based on service management standards and practices
Experience working in a fast-paced multidisciplinary team
