Intern - Actuarial Services & Tax (May 2025 - 8 months)

The primary purpose of this role is to support the Actuarial Services & Tax (AST) team in completing regular and special projects. This includes required reporting to regulators, determining individual outcomes for plan members, and review of data for use by external actuaries. It is an opportunity to build experience by utilizing critical thinking and math knowledge to directly impact the future financial welfare of plan members.

Who you’ll work with

You will be part of the Actuarial Services & Tax team working closely the Specialists and Analysts. AST forms part of the Member Services Complex Care Centre which is broadly responsible for administration and communication of benefits to plan members and pensioners.

What you’ll do
  • Prepare individual member calculations for complicated and complex cases

  • Automation of existing and new reports and algorithms as needed to improve efficiencies

  • Assist in data analysis to ensure appropriateness for valuation

  • Conduct research, perform actuarial analysis, and report findings on special cases, risk mitigation projects, plan demographic experience, and corporate/divisional projects

  • Preparation and/or review of actuarial and tax-related instructional materials and updates, in laymen’s terms, for distribution to internal clients

  • Provide support to other departments with actuarial and tax-related changes to systems, processes and procedures, and reciprocal transfer calculations and rules

  • Develop and maintain actuarial applications/algorithms used to calculate member entitlements

What you’ll need

  • Completing a degree in Actuarial Science, Math, or Statistics

  • Pursuing to actuarial exams

  • Strong analytical, data manipulation and problem-solving skills and an ability to distill insights and assess opportunities

  • Strong knowledge of Visual Basic and Microsoft Office

  • Ability to learn programming languages, and other software quickly

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills

  • Pension or insurance background would be an asset
