Are you passionate about the Credit Market? We are growing! We are seeking an Associate to join the Credit team responsible for running a bottom-up, fundamental value-oriented investment strategy in high yield and leveraged loans. We seek to identify the most attractive risk-adjusted investment opportunities and deliver significant excess return above public credit benchmarks.
Who you’ll work withThe OTPP Credit team is a group of approximately forty investment professionals who invest across the full spectrum of credit products, employing a wide variety of investment styles, including fundamental analysis (public and private), structured credit, quantitative, and enhanced indexing strategies, as well as fund investments.
Reporting to a Director, Public Fundamentals, you will work within a team passionate about building conviction in single name and sector concentrations in high yield bonds and leveraged loans. The Associate will evaluate investment ideas in assigned sector(s) through quantitative and qualitative credit analysis and assist in deploying risk. Through the research process, Associates are encouraged to cultivate relationships with management teams, industry consultants, investment banks and other buy-side participants.
As a member of our dynamic trading floor environment, you will be exposed to the different strategies and risk-taking styles within the broader Capital Markets group through regular interactions. Based on our team’s broad directive you will also have the opportunity to collaborate with other members of OTPP investment teams both in Toronto and globally.
What you’ll doYour primary duty will be to actively evaluate credit investment opportunities, monitor and research investments, and assist in managing a portfolio within the public credit markets. Responsibilities include:
Identify and evaluate new investment opportunities in high yield bonds and leveraged loans
Research and monitor active investments including analyzing economic and financial performance and related metrics
Develop deep industry and capital markets knowledge in assigned sector(s) of focus
Perform detailed financial modelling and due diligence tasks including analyzing information from financial publications and services, investment banks, trade publications, company sources and industry interviews
Provide interpretation on price, yield, spread, future trends, economic influences and other factors affecting investments
Work with internal Investments teams, sell side parties and external relationships to facilitate credit research and idea generation

2+ years of relevant experience, with a focus on credit investing, corporate finance, capital markets, or credit/equity research being an asset
Strong academic background
A deep interest in, and understanding of, fundamental investing
Expert analytical and quantitative capability, including skills in modelling and valuation, with an ability to effectively communicate results in both verbal and written form
Excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication skills
High standard of work ethic and integrity
High commitment to be a team player, with a genuine collaborative spirit
Ability to balance priorities, work independently and lead projects
