Managing Director, Financial Reporting

The opportunity

Reporting directly to the CFO and being part of the Financial Senior Leadership Team (FSLT), the Managing Director, Financial Reporting is responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight of the critical finance functions of Financial Reporting including the teams of Financial Reporting, Corporate Finance, Sustainability Reporting and Analytics, and Investor Relations. This role provides opportunities to demonstrate thought leadership, operational excellence, and strategic vision to advance the organization’s financial reporting and controls environment, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements, enterprise priorities, and stakeholder expectations. The incumbent will lead highly skilled teams of approximately 25 people across these functions and collaborate with senior leaders to enable data-driven decision-making, effective financial stewardship, and forward-thinking sustainability practices

What you'll do

  • Work with the CFO and Finance senior leadership team in priority setting through understanding organizational and Finance objectives and priorities.

  • Create and lead the execution of the Group’s plans that will contribute to achieving the Enterprise and Division’s objectives

  • Collaborate with external advisors, industry participants, and regulatory bodies to remain at the forefront of financial reporting and sustainability practices.

  • Working with the Plan’s auditors and the Finance leadership team to ensure the year-end (and where applicable quarter end) financial statement preparation work is executed successfully. Ensure deliverables relating to financial reporting for the Audit & Actuarial Committee will be prepared in a timely manner and have been thoroughly reviewed for quality in advance of submitting to the CFO

  • Lead Finance’s critical role in the preparation of the Annual report in conjunction with the CFO and the Communications Department

  • Working closely with Pension Risk team in support of financial statement valuation of assets and accrued pension liabilities to determine financial statement surplus (deficit)

  • For each of the areas, ensure: (1) on-going development and implementation of standards and controls systems are effective; (2) maintenance and documentation of each areas policies and procedures are up to date, (3) proper oversight for the effectiveness of monitoring systems such as the daily check of total plan valuation

  • Oversight for all sustainability-related financial reporting, including metrics such as the Portfolio Carbon Footprint and Green Bond reporting.

  • Partner with Sustainable Investing (SI) to enhance reporting capabilities, develop methodologies, and ensure data integrity for sustainability metrics, in support of the Enterprise and Sustainable Investing strategy.

  • Work with Management Reporting team to support reporting of key metrics which will promote accountability, efficiency and integration of reporting to various stakeholders (eg. executive team, investment senior leadership team)

  • Consult with senior management in other departments to assist them with cost effectiveness.

  • Leads team of ~25 direct and indirect reports across the functions with accountability to managing and coaching director reports to support day to day performance, assist them in striving to make their department more efficient, effective and client-focused

  • Provide coaching and support individual development, and build a motivated, high-performing team and succession pipeline

  • Increase employee productivity by using effective project management techniques, measurements, tools and metrics

What you'll need

  • Approximately 15 years or more of related professional experience in financial and management reporting management

  • CPA (CA), CFA or MBA required.

  • Deep experience in financial and management reporting including oversight of annual financial planning process and related best practice.

  • Exceptional people leadership and coaching experience with at least 5+ years' experience leading a large team.

  • Experience working with senior executives in matrix organizations.

  • Deep knowledge of strategic and annual planning techniques and models.

  • Excellent communications skills (both written and verbal) and ability to drive alignment and influence with various stakeholders

  • Demonstrated experience in driving change across the department.

  • Ability to facilitate team based decision-making processes.

  • Excellent problem solving, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.

  • Advanced PowerPoint skills, ability to create visuals to convey broad concepts.
