Scrum Master

The opportunity

This position is for an experienced Scrum Master to coordinate the delivery of our products and services. As a Scrum Master, you will be responsible for high quality product/service delivery, resolving issues in a team, and implementing balanced improvements to meet delivery timelines and quality standards. The role is central to a well-functioning Agile team (Scrum or Kanban) that delivers a product/service which generates business benefits for one or more lines of business at OTPP.

Who you'll work with

In this role you will work with the Service Request Manager / Product Owner to keep the upstream pipeline of work well organized with the processes necessary to support both Flow and Value optimization. You will also work with Agile Coach, organizational area SMEs, and the team to craft roadmaps, release cadences/strategies, and actively works within the team to support Flow optimization, healthy team dynamics, and living the Kanban/Scrum principles to evolve the system toward higher maturity.

What you'll do

  • Facilitates agile cadences, with the specific cadences paired with the team’s maturity level (ex. comfortable facilitating a lower maturity team’s retrospective well also comfortable facilitating a Flow Review or Service Delivery Review)

  • Provide team level Flow metrics at a detailed work as well as customer request level. Depending on team maturity this may include WIP, WIP aging, System Lead Time Distribution, Delivery Rate, Blocker Clustering, Blocker Aging, and the composition of work item types for a given period

  • Identifies, leads and resolves any risks, issues, and blockers. In some contexts, works with traditional organizational roles (project manager, people managers, application managers, etc.) to address blockers which require broader organizational support

  • Lead the team to self-organization and continuous improvement

  • Collaborates with other members of the Agile Enablement Office (Agile Coaches, Scrum Masters, etc.) to increase the effectiveness of the application of fit-for-purpose approaches based on the customer needs and work/demand patterns

  • Leading and coaching teams and the organization in its Agile adoption

  • Helping teams and stakeholders understand and enact empirical development

  • Causing change that increases the productivity of the agile team

  • Working with other Scrum Masters and Service Delivery Managers to increase the effectiveness of the application of agility in the organization

  • Demonstrate a collaborative approach to accomplish work and can influence a wide range of key internal and external stakeholders of all levels

  • Demonstrate servant leadership

  • Manage up to 2 teams at any given period

What you'll need

  • Bachelor’s degree, or strong software development background.

  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM) / Kanban Management Professional (KMP)

  • Six Sigma / Lean Certification an asset

  • Canadian Securities Course (CSC) an asset

  • Knowledge of agile development best practices, and experience with project management tools such as Jira

  • 3+ years' experience as a Scrum Master Financial Services experience an asset

  • 5+ Years of experience as part of a delivery environment (either traditional or agile)

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)

  • Excellent influencing and negotiating skills

  • Excellent organizational, planning, analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with all levels of management and staff

  • Demonstrates a deep understanding and application of Agile management and collaboration tools and methodologies (e.g. Jira, Confluence, Miro, etc.)

  • Experience with modern Product development practices (e.g. Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery, Test-driven development, etc.) highly preferred.

  • Effective planning and organizational experience to set priorities and co-ordinate projects to meet deadlines

  • Effective organizational skills sufficient to manage competing and changing priorities within a dynamic environment

  • Proven problem-solving skills and analytical skills to creatively develop unique solutions/approaches to resolve issues

  • Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with multiple clients, teams and partners

  • Proactive customer service focus
