2025 Summer Learning Programs - CODE & Intensive Reading

The duties and responsibilities of this position may be subject to change, further to confirmation of transfer payment details from the Ministry of Education.

This posting is open to ELEMENTARY CONTRACT teachers.



Teacher Commitment (20 Days):

Both of these summer programs will run from June 30th - July 25th (not including Canada Day, July 1st) for students and will include June 30th and July 2nd for educator planning, and July 25th for educator wrap-up. Educators will also be required to attend in-person training at Confederation Education Centre on June 5th and 19th from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. You will be paid for your time on both of these evenings. Note: In-person attendance for the educator planning (June 5th, 19th and July 2nd,) is required to work in this program. June 30th, will be virtual.



Students attend daily from 8:30 a.m. - noon (synchronous and asynchronous). The educators day will begin at 8:15 a.m. and end at 1:15 p.m., allowing time for planning, professional learning and communicating with families. Educators will be paid a daily rate of $279.30 (including 4% vacation).



Educators will work to implement online learning resources and will be supported by instructional coaches - its a terrific professional learning opportunity!



Program 1: The CODE Virtual Summer Learning Program - Grade K to 6

This program is intended to close gaps for students who are achieving below provincial standard and/or approaching grade level curriculum expectations in literacy and numeracy (i.e., level 2 working towards level 3). This program will be staffed at approximately one educator per 7 students.



Program 2: Virtual Intensive Reading Intervention Program - Grade K to 6

The Intensive Reading Intervention Program provides targeted and intensive support to close gaps for students who are experiencing significant difficulty in reading (e.g. decoding, fluency, and comprehension) and achieving well below provincial standard in reading (i.e., level 1 working towards level 2). This program will be staffed at approximately one educator per 7 students



Required Qualifications:

  • Valid Ontario Teaching Certificate in good standing with Basic Qualifications at the Primary, Junior or Intermediate level



Preferred Qualifications/Experience:

  • Current and relevant classroom experience

  • Experience working in a summer program

  • Teacher qualification/experience at the Primary or Junior level (Language and/or Mathematics) using high yield strategies (e.g. an understanding of structured literacy)

  • Direct co-learning experience(s) with other teachers in effective classroom practices

  • A breadth of knowledge and understanding of current research and high-impact instructional practices in foundational literacy and mathematics, as outlined in the revised Mathematics (2020) and Language (2023) curriculums

  • Experience effectively providing highly targeted and evidence-based intervention in small group settings

  • Strong assessment practices that includes the administration of evidence-based assessment tools to interpret, plan and progress monitor student learning



Responsibilities:

  • Report to assigned CODE or Intensive Reading Program administrator

  • Attend meetings to plan and organize the summer program as required

  • Deliver the assigned elementary summer program

  • Assess student progress and ongoing progress monitoring

  • Complete a Summary of Learning for each student

  • Attend and engage in professional development

  • Daily communication with parent/guardian throughout duration of program



Salary: $279.30 per day (including 4% vacation pay)
