The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board is the largest school board in Eastern Ontario and offers students and parents a world of choice for learning. We are seeking a creative, dynamic and committed educators to submit an Expression of Interest for Continuing Education:

Fall 2024 Night School (VIRTUAL) - Secondary Teacher

Overview

The Fall 2024 Night School program offers Reach Ahead courses in the following subjects: Canadian and World Studies, Cooperative Education, English, Mathematics, Science, Social Sciences and Humanities, ESL as well as the Ontario Secondary School Literacy course. The Fall 2024 Night School program for students will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from Thursday, September 19, 2024 - Tuesday, December 17, 2024 (26 nights). Each session is 3.85 instructional hours, running from 5:30 p.m. to 9:21 pm. Teachers must be prepared to deliver the assigned credit through Synchronous and Asynchronous platforms according to a PREDETERMINED Schedule. The platforms that will be used to deliver virtual learning expectations will include Google Classroom as the Learning Management Platform and Google Meet for class meetings. Teachers may also wish to incorporate other vetted applications and resources and will be able to access resources within the VLE.

Please note, as per the collective agreement, article 40.02 c: in the event that the Employer cancels two (2) or more day/evenings of Continuing Education courses as a result of unforeseen circumstances beyond its control, Continuing Education teachers will be required to attend and teach a make-up evening. The Fall 2024 Night School Session replacement date is Thursday, December 19, 2024.

Pay rate: $50.87/hour + 4% in lieu of vacation

Staff Meetings and Professional Development

There will be a staff meeting prior to the start of the Night School classes on Thursday, September 19, 2024 from 4:50pm to 5:20pm via Google Meet.

Teachers will also have the option to participate in up to 3 hours of approved paid PD. Further details about the optional PD will also be provided to successful applicants prior to the start of the session.

Application Process

There is only one posting for the Fall 2024 Night School Session. All teachers, with or without Continuing Education (CE) Seniority, can apply to this posting. Applicants MUST hold Senior qualifications with the Ontario College of Teachers (in good standing) at the time of application. As per the Collective Agreement, applicants with CE Seniority who appear on the June 2024 Continuing Education Seniority List and hold the required qualifications will be offered positions first. Applicants with CE Seniority are required to apply using their Apply to Education account that is linked to their OCDSB Employee Identification Number (EIN).

If there are still positions available after all CE Seniority teachers who applied to this posting have been placed, remaining applicants will be assessed according to the requirements and OCT qualifications outlined in this job posting, and in accordance with Policy P.146.HR Equitable Recruitment, Hiring and Promotion.

Staffing Timelines

Staffing timelines for Night School become more and more constrained as we edge closer to the end of registration. Offers of work will begin no earlier than September 13, 2024, but could be as late as Tuesday, September 19, 2024. Offers will be sent to the email you provided in Apply to Education (ATE) by the Principal of Continuing Education. Please make sure that your preferred email address is up-to-date in ATE. Offers will have specific response parameters, including timelines for acceptance/decline. Where acceptances are not received within the timeframes specified in the email, it will be assumed that you are declining the offer of work.

PLEASE NOTE: As a condition of employment, all new employees will be required to submit a recent Police Record Check for the vulnerable sector prior to their start date with the OCDSB.
