Respectful Workplace Advisor
100% Regular
Monday - Friday, 35 hours per week
Union Exempt, Level 7: $86,632 to $101,957
Under the direction of the Legal Counsel, the Respectful Workplace Advisor supports the coordination and implementation of Respectful Workplace and Harassment process, including managing complaints; conducting workplace investigations; providing advice and feedback, and recommendations; develops and delivers relevant training and awareness campaigns; and maintains and implements relevant policies and procedures. Main responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Acting as a resource and subject matter expert for OCDSB employees, supervisors, and management.
Receiving and reviewing complaints and conducting threshold analysis.
Conducting investigations into complaints of Disrespectful Behaviour or Workplace Harassment, including making findings of facts, writing reports, making conclusions, and making recommendations to principals, managers and superintendents on whether to impose discipline;
Sustaining knowledge of regulatory requirements by studying current and proposed legislation and rulings, establishing networks with counterparts in other organizations and benchmarking best practices.
Developing and maintaining a central repository/database for complaints and associated responses and resolutions.
Providing or coordinating mediation and facilitation services to employees as required.
Liaising with unions and federations on issues.
Developing and maintaining an awareness campaign to demonstrate the District’s commitment to creating and maintaining a respectful workplace.
Developing, maintaining and delivering presentations, workshops and web-based training on issues related to Respectful Workplace and Harassment.
Qualifications
Post-secondary degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related discipline and five years of demonstrated experience in the area of respectful workplace and harassment programs or conflict resolution. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
CHRP designation is considered an asset.
Knowledge of relevant Board Policies & Procedures on Respectful Workplace and Harassment.
Knowledge of investigative procedures, and an understanding of the principles of procedural fairness, and grievance and arbitration processes.
Familiarity with the Occupational Health & Safety Act as it relates to Harassment in the Workplace and an understanding of the Ontario Human Rights Code as it relates to issues of prohibited grounds of discrimination.
Experience in the execution of respectful workplace and harassment strategies.
Excellent communication skills required in order to respond, clarify or gather pertinent information from others, either in writing or through verbal conversations, and must demonstrate interpersonal qualities to establish and maintain effective working relationships, including using sensitivity and empathy with affected stakeholders.
Initiative and judgment skills required for decision-making, and taking appropriate action to resolve problems and conflicts.
Organizational skills, as well as time management techniques for organizing and planning work; juggling multiple demands, priorities; and working within short and sometimes conflicting deadlines.
Mediation skills for the quick resolution of issues, problems and employee conflicts.
Proficiency in word-processing, spreadsheet and database management applications.
Note: must have reliable transportation for local travel to schools or other sites.
