Permanent Part-Time Early Learning Educator

Location: Huntsville School

Anticipated Start Date: August 26, 2024

Assignment: Educational Learning Educator (ELE)

FTE: Permanent Part-Time (650 annual hours)

Huntsville School is highly focused on literacy and serves approximately 115 students from Grades K to 9. The school is located in the Hamlet of Iron Springs located approximately 10 km’s east of Picture Butte, (Picture Butte is 35km northeast of Lethbridge), and is a friendly community committed to supporting its local schools.

Huntsville School invites enthusiastic individuals to apply for the Permanent Part-Time Early Learning Educator position now available. This assignment would be to instruct preschool students. Early Learning Educators provide a learning environment through a play-based readiness program designed to meet the developmental needs of young learners prior to kindergarten. Early Learning Educators, staff with a Level III Early Childhood Education diploma, are supervised by certificated teaching staff, including the Learning Support Teacher and the Coordinator of Early Learning.

Qualifications:

Completion of a Level III Early Learning Childhood Education diploma

Experience in an Inclusive learning environment an asset

Current Standard First Aid and CPR certificates (Child CPR Certificate is a strong asset)

Responsibilities:

Provides a safe and caring environment where children feel secure.

Guides children’s behaviour through positive redirection.

Implements preschool activities and play centres as planned in consultation with certificated staff.

Meets the A rticulation, L anguage, L iteracy, S ocial, P hysical, I ntellectual, C reative and E motional (ALLSPICE) needs of all the children.

Observes children to determine if extra assistance is needed.

Participates with the parents, consulting teacher and Early Intervention Specialist in developing individual program plans to meet individual children’s learning needs. This often involves modification in program delivery, materials and method of evaluation.

Directs the activities of the preschool Student Services assistants, in cooperation with the consulting teacher and/or Early Intervention Specialist.

Informs the Student Services assistants of preschool rules, behaviour and conduct expected in the preschool.

Liaises with the home in a variety of ways, e.g., providing monthly newsletters to inform parents of information related to the preschool program.

Keeps current with professional development by attending workshops, seminars and conferences.

Ensures the safety of students in the school and community, which includes maintaining close supervision of students.

Maintains confidentiality, and a patient, supportive and enthusiastic commitment to students.

Maintains collegial relationships with the student’s learning team.

Works with students in a variety of settings in the school and community, including assisting in the supervision of students at breaks or on field trips as required.

Performs other related duties as required.
