The Division:

Palliser School Division, headquartered in Lethbridge, Alberta, educates around 9,300 students from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12. It has a diverse network of 51 schools, including traditional public schools, outreach programs, Low German Mennonite schools, faith-based schools, Hutterite colony schools, the National Sports School and even an online school. Notably, 10 of the faith-based schools are located in Calgary.

The Position:

Become a Champion for Student Wellbeing: Making Connections Worker

Palliser School Division is currently welcoming applications for the position of a Full-time, Permanent Making Connections Worker, commencing August 26th, 2024. The successful applicant will work in conjunction with the School team and the Family School Liaison Counsellors at school(s) served within the Palliser School Division.

Reporting to the Clinical Team Lead you will be a game-changer for student success! The Making Connections Worker role equips schools with a powerful Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum, empowering students to navigate life's challenges. Beyond the classroom, you will be a guiding force for students and families facing obstacles, advocating for their needs and helping them overcome barriers. This is your chance to ignite positive change and cultivate a thriving school community where students and families can flourish.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Implement evidence-based mental health programs and early intervention strategies within the classroom setting.

Collaborate with schools to facilitate the successful integration of Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum.

Empower children, youth, and families by fostering the development of skills and knowledge necessary to cultivate positive relationships within the school, home, and community environments.

Facilitate access to community resources for families by providing referrals, scheduling meetings, and coordinating transportation as needed.

Advocate for families by liaising with school administration and community partners to ensure appropriate support and services are received.

Coordinate crisis intervention by assisting families in accessing the most appropriate services during challenging periods.

Qualifications and Work Experience:

Preference will be given to individuals with:

A related post-secondary degree or diploma in psychology, social work or similar;

At least 2 years working experience in mental health or health/human services related role (experience as a practicum student considered);

Experience in an educational setting, with children and adolescents;

Excellent communication skills & interpersonal skills;

Experience working with community agencies and organizations;

Excellent organizational and time management skills;

Appropriate insurance coverage to transport children and families.

Criminal Record Check, including vulnerable sector check from Local Police Service or RCMP detachment (dated within the last 3 months);

Social Insurance Number (SIN) card or document issued by Service Canada; SIN card/document must be in current legal name. Name on SIN card/document must match your Government Issued ID and Criminal Record Check;

Government issued ID - valid driver's license, valid passport or Nexus card;

Child Intervention Check, completed within 3 months of contract start date.
