Associate Transportation Planner/Engineer - Halifax

Parsons has been a leader in the planning, design and delivery of transportation infrastructure across the world for more than 75 years. Our Canada team is looking for a talented associate planner or engineer to add to our growing team in Halifax. Our team is focused on helping our municipal and provincial clients expand and improve their transportation systems through innovative and transformative solutions.

Position Overview:

The Associate Transportation Planner/Engineer will support our Halifax team in various transportation projects. You will assist in feasibility studies and designs of transportation infrastructure for key corridors in our regions, cities, and towns across the Atlantic Provinces. Your assignments will involve planning, concept design, functional design, stakeholder communications, and support for approval processes. There will be opportunities to contribute to preliminary and detailed design, tender preparation, and construction phases. You will also participate in master plans and various mobility studies, plans, and designs. Your work may focus on accessibility features, pathways, trails, micro-mobility solutions, cycling facilities, arterial and collector streets, protected intersections and crossings, active transportation bridges, transit priority solutions, rapid transit facilities, integrated street/corridor renewals, and supporting infrastructure. You will help implement Parsons' complete streets and transit-oriented approaches to positively impact communities across the Atlantic Provinces.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the planning and design of active transportation, complete streets, transit priority corridors, and rapid transit routes, with a focus on accessibility and inclusivity.

  • Contribute to transportation/mobility studies, including urban corridor studies & designs, operational and feasibility studies, transportation master plans, and research on best practices and guidelines.

  • Participate in public processes for projects and master plans, supporting community-wide stakeholder engagement campaigns.

  • Collaborate with other team members and firms within Parsons, including daily support from our complete streets teams in Ottawa, Montreal, and the Greater Toronto Region.

  • Assist in the preparation of consulting team proposals.

  • Support new technologies, trends, and advancements in the transportation planning field to maintain technical competency and provide high-quality services to our clients.

  • Represent Parsons at professional association events, design standards workshops, and conferences.

  • Present project outcomes at local, provincial, national, and international conferences.

Requirements:

  • University degree in Urban Planning and/or Civil Engineering with a transportation focus is required. Relevant Master’s degrees or post-graduate certificates are not required but are highly valued.

  • Effective interpersonal, verbal and writing communications and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Knowledge of national, provincial and municipal processes, policies, guidelines and standards related to transportation planning/engineering and evolving industry trends.

  • Participation in the Institute of Transportation Engineers, Canadian Institute of Planners, Transportation Association of Canada, or other relevant industry organizations.
