Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Environmental Data & GIS Specialist to join our team! In this role you will get to work with our Environmental team at the Oakville office to support our senior advisors, project managers, coordinators, and field technicians.
What You'll Be Doing:
The Environmental Data & GIS Specialist will build and manage databases, seek automated solutions, and analyze and visualize data. This position requires strong collaborative skills but also the ability to initiate, prioritize, investigate and deliver tasks independently. Your leadership will support projects on Contaminated Land Assessments and Management Programs (Phase I and II ESAs), Remediations, Excess Soil management, and other environmental management plans and monitoring.
- Investigate and lead innovative ArcGIS initiatives
- Manage environmental, chemical, hydrogeological, geographical and opensource data
- Build and manage databases; query and produce reports from data in the databases.
- Build and maintain forms that collect data from the field by our technicians, that feed the database.
- Automate repetitive workflows by maximizing ArcGIS Pro tools and SQL and Python
- Design workflows between ArcGIS Pro and compatible software and equipment
- Understand and construct data compatibility
- Create routine and custom figures for environmental site assessment reports to clients
- General understanding of data related to environmental site monitoring, investigation, and remediation projects at petroleum and chemical handling and storage properties, and linear infrastructure.
- Work in project teams including senior advisors, project managers, coordinators and draftspersons using interpersonal and organizational skills to ensure project tasks are completed on time and budget.
What Required Skills You'll Bring:
- University degree or College diploma in geography, environmental science, earth sciences, or other related programs
- 2+ years of experience related to the job responsibilities above
- Advanced knowledge of ArcGIS Pro
- Application of SQL and Python
- Knowledge of Graphic User Interface platforms i.e. ArcGIS Field Maps, StoryMaps, Survey123, Forms on Fire
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team
- Relevant trade experience may also be considered as equivalent for the right candidate with experience in similar operations.
- Experience in related industry an asset, must have career interest in the environmental field.
- Demonstrated excellent written and oral communications skills to a variety of audiences.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Power Point and Excel
- A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
What Desired Skills You'll Bring:
- Working knowledge of AutoCad
- Working knowledge of Trimble units and data collection
- Knowledge of general engineering and geosciences software is an asset
- Knowledge of Sharepoint and PowerAutomate is an asset
- Demonstrated presentation skills to present information to varied audiences and advanced writing skills to prepare detailed reports/materials of varying complexity
- Access to personal vehicle preferred
- History of taking initiative: learning and keeping up to date on professional development, including software applications, volunteering for workplace initiatives (ie. Special assignments, office housekeeping, socials, etc.)
- Knowledge and experience with artificial intelligence applications
