Job Description:

Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Environmental Intern to join our team! In this role you will support various aspects of environmental compliance, monitoring and inspections at the Faro Mine Remediation Project (FMRP).

The FMRP, located in Faro, Yukon, is one of the largest and most complex abandoned mine remediation projects in Canada. Faro is located 4 hours northeast of Whitehorse, Yukon, and currently has a population of approximately 350 people. Furnished housing will be provided, you will be required to prepare your own meals during the shift on Site. If required, flights to Whitehorse, travel between Whitehorse and Faro, and daily transportation to and from the Mine Site to Faro will be provided.

What You'll Be Doing:

The Environmental Intern will be supporting the Environmental Team and responsible for safely completing tasks in the field along with associated paperwork. Typical duties include:

  • Assisting in monitoring, inspections and sampling including discharge water sampling, geotechnical inspections and elevation survey for water levels in ponds and pits.
  • Assist in waste management compliance inspection, air quality monitoring (occupational and ambient air monitoring), emergency spill response, erosion and sediment control inspection, contaminated site investigation (i.e. soil, groundwater and surface water sampling), and environmental compliance monitoring for construction projects
  • Support data management and QA/QC
  • Review policies, procedures and other documents.
  • Prepare fieldnotes, checklists, observation logs, and photo logs for review.
  • Assist with technical reporting.
  • Use appropriate equipment to complete various monitoring tasks.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Lead Environmental Monitor or Environmental Manager.

What Required Skills You'll Bring:

  • Enrolled in technical curriculum at an accredited college or university and completed typically 1+ years of study.
  • Familiarity with tasks, techniques, and PC software packages typically associated with field of study along with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Self-motivated, ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrates attention to detail in your work.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • A strong aptitude towards Health and Safety
  • Ability to lift up to 20 kg.
  • Ability to comfortably work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license.
