The Division
Pembina Hills School Division provides education to approximately 3600 students in 16 community schools including two Hutterite Colony Schools and two outreach schools. PHSD also provides education to over 10,000 students from within and beyond our borders, through our online school, Vista Virtual School. The Position
The successful candidate will work as a member of the Corporate Services Team in the Division Office located in Barrhead, Alberta. The chosen applicant must be comfortable in all Payroll functions, as this position is responsible for providing pay and benefit support for staff within the division. Duties are to commence as soon as possible.
General Responsibilities:
Monthly payroll for approximately 600 employees
Monthly calculations and remittances for three pension plans, two unions, government deductions, benefit plan payments, and other remittances as required
Ensure adherence and compliance to the Education Act, Employment Standards, collective agreements, and Non-Union Staff Terms and Conditions for Employment handbook
Balance all payroll accounts in the General Ledger
Create and submit electronically - Records of Employment
Manage employee storage banks, grid increments, benefit enrolment and changes
Maintain and submit monthly pension records
Answer staff queries regarding payroll, benefits, pension, etc.
Work closely with the Human Resources Coordinator and all other members of the Corporate Services team.
Requirements:
Must have excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
Self-motivated and efficient
Able to handle detail with a high degree of accuracy
Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet goals, and manage large volumes of data while staying within timelines required
Be a team player
Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills
Qualifications:
Willing to train the right candidate
Payroll or accounting background would be an asset
Payroll Compliance Professional Certificate in the National Payroll Institute (formally Canadian Payroll Association) is preferred
